I ring the planning department of the council, I know who in the office does tpo checks and which days they work. I dont always tell the client, I give them the price and just check it anyway, then if it is tpo'd I can go back to them, if it isnt then I havent worried them unnecessarily. The problem is that people dont understand the implications of a tpo, they think it will be a slap on the wrists and they'll get away with it. Sad thing is, with many LAs being overstretched and understaffed, they are probably right.

If in doubt, check it. A quick phone call now, that could save you a big fine later. Also be wary of clients who tell you they have checked already, always worth double checking in case someone tries to pull the wool over your eyes. Doubly applicable with builders/ developers.

Its just as well they are all non-lethal then. If you were in South Africa, where they know a thing or two about booby traps, you would probably have burnt your own ankles off by now!

Cool. I have a 30m that I use for probably 80% of my trees, but I still like to have the longer ropes when needed.

Did not know that. Just presumed since the initial question was regarding off the shelf products. A bit more choice in splices would be good, the Yale factory splices for instance are too big to be good as tight eyes, and too small to be useful as long ones....

Do you do any arb contracting then? Or are you purely machinery sales? I"m sure you wont mind me asking.

It means they want £41 off you but they know nothing about the arb industry, and as long as they keep getting money for doing nothing they dont care.

Getting a bit fancy for off the shelf stocking though, if you want to specify the size of the eye I would have thought you would go to a shop that offers custom splicing?

Not if you manage the rope properly. If you are on a short rope in a big crown, how do you get down after you've stuck an 020 in your arm? I certainly dont plan on waiting for a groundie to come up if I did get into trouble, so I always have a rope long enough to get down in a single pitch.

Rather you than me! Ask yourself one question, is the braking ability of the vehicle impaired to the point where you cant stop safely in an emergency? If the answer is yes, then you are risking not only your licence, but your life and your passengers lives, not to mention passing pedestrians. I have done it, but not any more, I am taking steps to ensure I need never overload again.

Anyway, to answer your question, looks like a wall in poor state of repair to me, however it is always difficult to persuade the customer of this after the fact. What did you do? -
Just tell them, mr smith has a message for you, he says get the trees cut.

I would have felled the whole tree in one, phone line and all, and gone home for lunch. Half a tonne, what a poof! -
Is the one you weighed a 635? I think the vermeer mesterh is referring to is one of the older models, like a 625, which I think are a bit lighter than the current crop.

So call that 2.5 tonnes of chip, in a vehicle with a legal payload of around 1 tonne, so around 1.5 tonnes overloaded in a 3.5 tonne gross vehicle. Driver liable to a £1500 fine plus points, not for me thanks.

Difficult to judge the distances from the pic, but could you tie into the big conifer behind the dead cedar? If so I might risk snatching some of the dead tree, but only if failure of the tree would not result in catastrophe for climber, ground crew or other targets on the ground.

Used both, like them both, would buy a 660, but for the old caps. Not really keen on the husky caps either, I like to keep my combi spanner in the toolbox rather than in the combi can.
