I'm in Meindl Airstream at the mo, very comfy, good with spikes, fine for footlocking and general climbing. Before these I had Haix Trekker Mountains, better for climbing, nice grippy soles, but useless with spikes as they have virtually no instep.

Tie it off directly to the top anchor, that gives the lowest loading on the tree. How are you tensioning the speedline? Are you rigging big branches, small branches, or timber?

Not my cup of tea. Putting a 20 cubic metre capacity body on a 7.5 tonner and then using it for chip is asking for trouble IMO.

I know that, and you know that, but to the AA, AFAG, NPTC, and LANTRA, I dont believe we even exist as of yet. They arent my interested parties thanks very much.

The reality is that no amount of discussion on this forum will make any difference to any interested bodies. Only direct contribution to the consultation will affect anything.

Which one, the big yellow chipper link or the dodgy thai massage one?! How many world champion climbers use Poison Ivy? I'm not sure I can think of any off the top of my head..... The CE issue with PI has been ongoing for several years, so there must be a good reason. Lots of other Yale products are CE marked. You will have trouble buying a non CE marked rope in the EU, I would just go direct to a USA supplier if there was something I really really wanted! BTW, the ANSI standard for climbing lines exceeds 22kN.......

The only uk stockist as far as I know is Honey Brothers, although its not listed on their online catalogue, but it is in their rope comparison chart. I know they had some at the AA trade fair last year.

Poison Ivy is a fatter version of Yale Blaze. I'm not sure on the CE status, but Blue Moon, which is pretty much the same thing in a different colour, is available here and I'm almost sure has a CE mark. FWIW, if I liked it I would climb on it CE marked or not.

I wont be drinking any chain oil thanks very much. Mineral oil is better in the event of a chainsaw inflicted wound however, as bacteria can grow in vegetable oil, but mineral oil is effectively sterile.

Any decent bodybuilder will build you a tipper body for a pickup. My main concern would be the strength of the chassis, as they are not really built for the job. Easy enough to stick a tipper on it though.

What is the legal status of a topper then? I thought the only restriction was a self regulatory dont sell these to the general public.

No. For starters, there are other recognised training and certification providers. Secondly, PUWER says that you must provide training for your employees. This could be a 30 minute session in house to show a new employee how to operate a piece of equipment. As far as I am aware, chainsaws have no special status enshrined in legislation, therefore as long as you can demonstrate that adequate training has been provided, there is no requirement for a certificate of competence. This is further confirmed by the existence of LANTRA. You can attend a LANTRA course and receive a certificate of attendance at a training course, which is clearly not a certificate of competence, and then go off and use a chainsaw in the workplace.
