The 3120 is easier to start in the tree than the 880, but other than that I cant see there's much between them. Hanging it off your harness is much nicer if you have a chest harness on. I find any big saw just pulls the harness down over my hips. If you are on spikes ringing down a big stem, then the best place for the saw while you reposition is on top of the stem.

Yes, the company I use do that, the insurance is 17% of the hire charge.

Do a google search for hired in plant insurance, you can buy a one day policy over the net just for what you need.

Its having insurance that makes those kinds of fells possible. Anyway, it could only go one way, there's a brick wall either side!

Even on a big takedown it wont be 80' past ten o clock! Even as a contract climber, I reckon I only spend an average of 4-5 hours a day climbing. Thats only 50%. The rest of the time is taken up with driving, carrying kit in and out, helping tidy up, chainsaw maintainance, and paperwork.

The hitchclimber needs at least one oval biner in order to keep everything aligned properly, however the choice of oval 3 way biners has been very limited up till now. Cost £14.80

My local plant hire depot had two Maxes, someone poisoned the pair of them in order to steal a 10 tonne excavator.

I have had similar discussions with staff at some centres, others are absolutely fine to the point of turning a blind eye to builders signwritten pickups shovelling tonnes of rubble out. I just pick and choose where I go now.
