I think you should have the whole chipper covered in chequer. That would be distinctive!

Yup, all you'd need then is a helmet in the same shade of green. A fully colour co-ordinated climbing system, it would be like a dream coming true!

Only one for now, I dont have one in green though, so I may have to buy another!

You could have used a long spliced eye, and turned the silver petzl ok in your pic upsidedown, and then to unclip from the system open the silver ok, release the eye, and split the system leaving the two revolvers on your bridge.

So you can clip a bowline into one carabiner and that bend radius is fine, but you cant clip that into one carabiner? That doesnt seem to add up.

Perhaps you should have cut it a bit smaller. Contract climbing has taught me to never be overly reliant on the abilities of an unknown groundie. Besides, running rigging ropes well is not that easy.

Topcat, on the whole I agree with your sentiments. You only have to read through a few threads on this forum to find informative discussion on a variety of relevant topics. These threads also highlight the fact that the vast majority of arborists are struggling to keep up the constantly changing demands of legislature on their business. The Tree Guild is not about excluding people who dont conform. Anyone is welcome to join, on the basis that they work towards compliance with current legislation. The TG will help all its members through the red tape maze by doing all the legwork on behalf of its members, keeping them informed, and helping them remain compliant. The accreditation system is really a byproduct of this, if your business stands up to scrutiny why not shout about it? The TG is not about jobs for the boys either, all the people involved in its creation so far work full time in the industry, in contracting or LA. It is my sincere hope that we can set something up that is a real benefit to the industry and TG members in particular, the measure of success will be membership uptake and retention, after all, no-one likes to pay for something that does not give a return!

Scarpa Pro Ascent. 90% of competition climbers wear them, available from Honey Brothers. Alternatively you could look at the Aku Croda, from Treeworker. If you dont want to spend that much, then a pair of walking/scrambling boots will do. Make sure them cover the ankle, and try to avoid metal eyelets as they tend to pull out.

Not a fan of the newer shape for towing, they eat clutches and they're not very torquey. You could buy mine instead, it already has a chip box and everything! Its in Cambridge now so not too far from you.

Heres a though John, for footlocking a double line, do the alpine BF thing and choke off the line onto the anchor, then put the FL strop on, and put your single handled ascender on the locked off leg, that way you can footlockk properly, but have something proper to grip on. Always fancied trying it, but never got round to it.

Thanks! I hope it will prove a winning combination. I think having the crane truck on site all day will make things much easier, rather than getting someone in to shift everything in one go. The more I think about it, the more sense it makes to offer a combined climber and crane truck hire service.

I'll be up for that, i may even bring my new crane truck!
