Try Yale Blue Moon https://www.knotandrope.com/catalog.php?r=view&prod_id=616 You should be able to get that from Honey Brothers or New England Tachyon. Available from most arb shops. The Yale is 11.7 mm, firm and low stretch, so its probably most similar to the edelrid. The NE is 11.5 mm, but tends to fluff up a bit, its nice and firm but a bit more bouncy. If you want to downsize to a true 11mm rope, then I would recommend Yale Blaze, which is very similar to Blue Moon but thinner.
  4. Central as in the middle of nowhere?

Proclimber used to stock it, Honey Brothers will either have it or should be able to get it. Have you tried any of the newer 11/11.5 mm ropes? All my climbing lines are 11mm, but none of them are fly.......
  6. If there is no traffic on the road in question then a full closure isnt really necessary? A few cones, signs and men in yellow jackets, and no-one will be any the wiser than it isnt official!
  7. Last piece looked a bit close to the house for comfort! Wonder what they did with the tree, would be ace to just fly off shore a couple of miles and drop it!
  8. I should buy that for spares if I were you Dave, it will save you money in the long run!

  10. Cool, mine doesnt need a stick to hold it up though! Is it a three way tipper? Looks like an ex-utility truck to me.
  11. All you need to make a footlock strop is about 4 metres of prussic cord. Tie boths ends to a biner with a suitable knot, tape the two sides of the strop together and hey presto.

  13. I dismantled my first tree in 1993, with a bowsaw and a big ladder. Did some training and got some nptcs a few years later. After a few wilderness years I got into full time tree work with an LA. Got fed up with that and went to work for a AA Approved contractor.Got fed up with that and went self employed just over a year ago. Never enjoyed work more!
  14. Use a decent cord for the strop (8mm beeline, 9mm tenex, or icetail) and when you restart after stopping stand in the first lock and slacken off the hitch before continuing. Get the hitch loose enough and it will advance no problem.
  15. Double ascender is great, but they do need backing up, and they make you lazy. Far better to learn proper technique from the start.
  16. As you ascend the knot should be fairly loose, you dont load it while ascending unless you need a rest, it's purely there as fall arrest. It should be tight enough to grab should you slip though. By strop i just mean an endless loop, like a giant prussic loop, or a length of cord with a large eye one end to form the hitch, and a small eye the other to connect to a carabiner. You cant descend on it as all your weight is on the hitch, unlike a conventional climbing system where only half your weight is on the hitch. If you descend any distance on a footlock strop you will very quickly burn it out, which could easily result in a fall.
  17. Damn that sucks, seems like everyone I know has had something stolen this year.
  18. No. The Maximum Authorised Mass of the combination must not exceed 4250kg. I.E. 3500 kg towing vehicle, 750 kg trailer, or 3000 kg towing vehicle, 1250 kg trailer but, the MAM of the trailer must not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle. Under no circumstances can you exceed 4250 kg MAM on a B licence.
  19. Hi Paul I use a footlock strop, which is a long loop, tied around both sides of the climbing line with a 6 wrap kleimheist. The loop should reach from your chin to the ground when tied. Use any tree harness, attach to the main ring as usual. Dont forget a figure 8 for getting down again!

  22. They do explain what they want on the test, so in theory you could pass it without any tuition beforehand. However, they do expect a very high standard. The same as the class one hgv test really, so I still say its worth getting some instruction first. Well worth doing, as if you get pulled towing, its the easiest conviction in the world, driving without a licence, 11 points, thanks very much. The law has been in force for ten years now, so there is no leeway anymore, everyone should know about it.
  23. My cranes bigger than your crane, nah nah nah nah nah!
  24. Dont think I'v seen yours Josh. Side tip at some point, yes. It's an ongoing self funding project!
