  1. I would fell it, its had its day.
  2. I'd have put you at around the 40 mark, Charlie, the years must have been hard on you
  3. Makes no difference....I'm still in the 2nd oldest category
  4. 46 years young
  5. All the best Steve:thumbup1:
  6. Utter load of tosh. I hire in the best man for each job, to get the best result at the end of the day. A building developer doesnt do all the groundworks, the chippying, the plumbing, the sparks and the roofing, he hires in professionals for each skill, he is the captain that keeps the ship steering in the right direction. Many climbers are just that, workers who can climb, rig and wieid a saw efficiently, and as such are just a part of a team. FTR, I always introduce my climbers to the client, I make n pretences as to where my skills(?) lie:001_smile:
  7. Most importantly, what are your local dealers like? If they supply spares for stihl, work on stihl, and sell stihl predominantly, I'd go for Stihl. Likewise for Husky. Tbh, all the banter aside there is little difference between the brands. Personally I consider the Husky more user-friendly as far as maintenance goes.
  8. I saw a cloud today
  9. Last year we had a contract to fell many many trees for just this reason. It totally baffled me too. Yes there were many adders and other reptiles, we saw where they'd been squashed by the large chipping machines running up and down the site. Sometimes I feel Man interferes too much.
  10. Though I do feel this is a superb idea, I do feel you need some kind of fee to cover your expenses, or a charge as a deterrent to people "forgetting" to return/send on books, much as a library would. Unfortunately there are some very "forgetful" people in this world, and to lose expensive books would leave a sour taste. But, its your call Tony, like I said, great idea
  11. If I may butt in here you 2 Re: Value of a live tree? is the topic of discussion here, not his and hers matching leather tassled jackets
  12. making life easy with a 5 ton demolition grab:thumbup:
  13. This fire is on bare plough, nothing that shouldnt burn in acres around!
  14. We do have a lad, but the poles needed snedding flush and cut to accurate lengths, so I "volunteered" to do them. Plus he's handy on the tractor skidding the trees out.
  15. oooOOOoo Janey...dont:biggrin: I've been snedding out and cross-cutting pops next to a 15ft high, 20ft wide fire all day, chucking the tops on as I go. Soooooo hot!
  16. Beautiful pics, as per usual, from you both:thumbup1:
  17. Its not the worst name I've seen incorporating "Arb" for a business
  18. Imagine a branch suspended on rigging, the competitors have to inch along as far as they can without triggering the sensor on the far end, it is very sensitive. Shame there was no traverse this year, that was entertaining for the crowds!
  19. My point of view on the tree. I would give an opinion based on how I would feel if it were my tree in my garden near my property. I would probably recommend a reduction along the lines of what Hama said in this case, based on what info is available in the pictures. Its not always black & white, there are so many factors to take into consideration when advising a client, and I think most options and opinions have been mentioned here, and I think the majority of answers are valid.
  20. Why import? Prices in this country are reasonable in comparison, you build a relationship with your suppliers, you help with employment of British workers, and generally help with our economy. Just a thought.
  21. Nice series of pics there Ian.
  22. Doesnt the support underwear get a little warm this time of year Mick?
  23. Interesting perspectives there John, and good to see you again:thumbup1:
  24. If nothing has meant creating and developing this forum, enabling the whole Arb (and other connected trades) to have a voice and form a community, then I'd hate to see the result of you doing something!!
  25. Ha, he is no longer trading, I dont know the ins and outs tbh.
