  1. Welcome Linesman1, ex Leccy Board I take it?
  2. Trouble is, every time I go to Bury I forget I actually need something!
  3. Thanks, might be useful to know, they're the little screws around the perimeter.
  4. I was going to put up a nice felling pic, but I cnt be bothered. S a shot from the Genie will have to suffice.
  5. 3 to be precise, though a couple of spares wouldnt go amiss. They are the little tiddly screws that go around the edge of the Stihl loggers tape. Now I dont know if there is a difference between Stihl tapes and the other makes, or if they are just badged Stihl and all parts are the same. BUT I'm desperate to get my tape working for next week's assault, so Help Me Please, dealers or other, dont care.
  6. No, its not that...
  7. Maybe I just picked a website at random and thought I'd ask about them
  8. I find it really handy, saves me lugging a genny around
  9. We do our best to keep it to a minimum, but it does sneak under the radar sometimes, as does filling in certain words with $ so they beat the auto censor. Luckily most manage to post within the forum guidelines
  10. Would it make a difference if you knew?

[quote=arbogrunt;450202 Call me old fashioned..but that just seems...STUPID. Isnt stupidity something we excel at? History shows many such faux pas by our leaders.

    Libya

Interesting, politically. UK, EU, North America and UAE for the intervention, China, Russia, African Union against, and indeed the African Union calling for an "immediate stop" to the attacks. Now I may well be wrong, but those "against" have little to lose or gain by intervention, whereas those "for" stand to gain a lot more, as said control of oil and its prices. With France's Sarkozy leading the initial call to arms, I cant help wondering if he is just trying to push himself forward as a strong politician (dont France have elections coming up?) There's a lot more to this than supporting a few rebels and "levelling the playing field" by removing Gaddafis air power, and until we can determine the true reasonings we should keep out of it.

Do you think we (UN "peace-keepers") will stop at that? I dont.

    Libya

If an uprising occurred in this country, on the magnitude of Libya, how do you think our government would handle it? Dont forget, the rebels are armed too. IMO we should leave them to it, if the uprising is that popular it will succeed.
  17. Maybe the general public think that the less ppe, the more experienced the operator? I mean, he must be really good cos he doesnt need all that gear on just to cut off a branch/ he must be a really good climber cos he doesnt even need all that rope and clobber to slow him down! I've actually heard these comments when subbing out over the years, in ref to other climbers.

    Libya

I have always been in favour of military intervention to remove dictators... til now. Maybe its my aging, perhaps getting wiser with age, perhaps a growing unwillingness to be hood-winked by government spin, but I fail to see how the removal of an Evil Dictator will help these Middle Eastern countries. The removal of Hussein created a power vacuum, and I'm sure this will happen with Libya. The populace of many of these countries may be oppressed, but they would prefer that than to be pawns in our war games, and once again we will be drawn into a "policing" role, with our forces being killed. These Middle Eastern countries have been in turmoil since times immemorial, and it seems to take a firm hand to control them, and like it or not, the likes of Hussein and Ghaddafi fill that role. If the boot was to be on the other foot, how would we feel if another nation tried to take control of us, by force?
  19. Apologies guvnor, didnt mean to tread n your toes. Sorta got caught up in the excitement.
  20. I dont hire it out, not even for a good cause such as this one.
  21. Re: the caming, lets hope people respect any rules put in place. Many of us have grumbled about the camping scenario on here, so dont abuse it.
  22. Sorry to butt in, I'd like to donate another clock. This one is made of Yew, with a thermometer and clock insert. Approx 10inches wide and 5inches high. I do have to put in a new battery before posting out, but it is in gwo.
  23. Lets see if we can make it a grand! This is going well, nice one Mick:thumbup1:
  24. Boshin out a top from the flying carpet
  25. Thanks Bald Ed, its good to see the forum being used in such a positive way. We learned the tough way with our chipper, since it failed I have checked it over every time it goes out. I also clean it more often so its easier to see any developing issues. When its cold and miserable out there, its so easy to drag the machine out, do a days work, and shove it back in the shed without so much as a glance. I hope that this thread has helped in 2 ways. Firstly that we all take more notice of our equipment, not just checking the water, oil and blades, and secondly, that the manufacturers of all machines pay heed to us the buying public and address the issues where necessary. I certainly dont molly-coddle my machines, but I do now pay a bit more attention to them, after all they earn us our money.
