  1. After searching around for a while, I finally found a pouch to carry a hi-lift on my belt in the woods. Its always a pain to drag a big saw, fuel, tools around through the brambles etc. I bought a couple from Landmark Trading (Tree climbing equipment from Landmark Trading | Home). Made by Weaver, so strong and stitching seems good, slot for spanner file etc too. Mentioned these to a few traders at Capel, Justin and others, so hopefully will be easily available soon. Good prompt service from Landmark as well
  2. Doesnt time fly!
  3. I was going to elaborate more on that, but thought it unfair to:biggrin:
  4. Talking of surprises, I was amazed to see MonkeyD there. Of course I'd forgotten it was the official book-signing day on the Friday, and we had to try and keep the frenzied crowd in order as they patiently queued in the baking show day sunshine. This has now proven to me beyond all doubt the power of Hama and Dave's push for Fungi to be more widely appreciated, I had totally under-estimated it. You're both a credit to something PS Nice to see you all again too PPS Mick...... thanks:thumbup1:
  5. For a fee I could read them out to you, save you looking:thumbup:
  6. Yeah come on Steve, we're waiting:biggrin:
  7. I'm lovin it, cant you feel the love?
  8. Today, I'm in a "I just dont care" kind of mood. Having spent 2 days working to a professional Arb consultant gobbledy-gook schedule, most of which is either highly inaccurate, non-descriptive and non-committal, I've decided on mild sedatives for my supper before I hit something.
  9. I do love a healthy debate
  10. I think "crown clean" is a very descriptive term, when I use it in a quote I tend to use a brief explanation, as I would with any term that the gen public would not necessarily understand. Is it right or wrong to use it? I dont care. I do think and believe that arb in general is getting too far up its own backside, too high and mighty. At the end of the day, we go out, cut a bit off a tree and go home. Its not that technical, why over-complicate things things just to justify a over-inflated price and ego. If we're not careful we'll be charging soon for not doing anything to the trees, leaving ivy, deadwood, snags, etc hardly what the clients will want.
  11. See, a reason for everything
  12. Some random modern "crown cleaning" shots from yesterday. Easier to take em down to get that hard to reach deadwood.
  13. Those pics alone are the best advert for this product! Nice one:thumbup:
  14. 5 up in there at the moment, if anyone wants to join in:thumbup1:
  15. No room for Toytown kit here, couple of rather splendid Sequoia to remove. (not on this job, colleague sent them to me)
  16. Do local companies stop at a garage near you, meet up at a pub on a Friday evening? If so try introducing yourself to them face to face and see if they are taking anyone on. You've already started this thread, so see if any one comes forward here. Prepare a brief CV to forward to anyone who contacts you. Offer to do a trial period, you may be just the sort of person they're looking for, but they dont know it yet. Good luck, its a tough yet rewarding journey.
  17. I never dream of more these days. I've been down the route of working for others, and though they seemed to have it all, the sports cars, big bikes, big houses and exotic holidays. But the big trade-off is the level of stress they invariably suffered. I am now satisfied with pottering about, doing jobs my way, spending time to talk with clients, enjoy the jobs instead of the manic chasing after anything and everything to keep a business afloat. I now enjoy the job far more, I dont get stressed and grumpy. Unlike Mr Huck, I have fully trained and competent friends to call upon for the more technical jobs, and it works better for me, and more importantly we have a laugh doing the job, make time for a cook-up and all the things that make things more pleasant during the day. Saying all this I'm a long way past 24 now, but i cant imagine doing anything else.
  18. I may have missed one!
  19. Oh well, never mind, better get out the 066 and fell some big dead pollards then
  20. Hopefully the person sees this and makes things right. As you are aware, we operate no-naming/shaming policy here on the forum, so hopefully this will be resolved quickly and satisfactorily and in private.
  21. Yeah, I wasnt sure what else to put in, but now I'm thinking of a couple of little ferns instead of the ivy. Also started a very small collection of dwarf conifers, Pinus mugo, Abies koreana, and Nordmann spruce to compliment my Sciadopitys verticilliata. Gone for the dwarf stock so I can fit more trees in the garden
  22. I think it sold for about 8k, seems a good truck from what he has said.
  23. Planted up with various adventitious plants, this should create a tiny little micro-climate for bugs and beasties to hide in, just in time to save my soul from Hamass and Monkeyds version of Eternal Hellfire & Damnation
  24. Merc with 071 Hiab, tool locker and chip bin my mate bought today, gonna be handy sometime soon:thumbup:
  25. Trouble is, there's plent of people with the WRONG attitude out there filling the jobs:001_tongue:
