  1. Usually hanging off my belt and those ones are Matts, mine are on my crane here (Clark forest )
  2. Funny this should crop up, reduced a tree today for a developer, he was intending to burn all the brash as it came down. Instead he decided to build up a big mountain, poured in 25litres of cherry and some old roof felt on top, and ignited with blowlamp. Now I wasnt really paying attention, as I was doing my own thing and didnt want to get too involved with their shenanigans. Then there was an almighty KA-BOOM and a sheet of flame abut 40feet long engulfed the site where developer was stood. His son was the other side of the fire with a large drum in his hands. No idea what happened the the chaps baseball cap, but i didnt see it again all day. Ironically last night I was joking with a mate about filming Nobbin & Dobbin as they didnt seem to have much of an idea. Now I wish I had:001_smile:
  3. Sorry Eggs, Arbtalk hasnt applied for charitable status as yet
  4. I see you've picked the North & South Les, but in the interest of a truly balanced opinion, I think the East & West should trial them too. And I dont mean namby-pamby testing, but real graft in a really demanding environment. PS I'm in the East (hint, hint )
  5. Not at all, I've had Echo products in the past, probably make the best all round machines for hedge care. If Carlsberg made hedgetrimmers they'd have to re-badge an Echo
  6. Echo long reach HC with adjustable head:001_smile:
  7. Yes
  8. Cheers TCD for sorting the new machine for me, really appreciate it. If you get to any of the shows I owe you a beer. Thank you.
  9. I tend to agree with charlie's posts, I run Kenda Executioners up front with Mudrunners on the rear, keep on pulling on heavy clay plough, slopes etc. I think the dualling of the rears woud be a cheaper and better option too:thumbup:
  10. Useful addition to our equipment, the MJ doesnt come out every day, but when it does it really save a lot of time:001_smile:
  11. You aint got the other one yet!! I'm going to try and send it off at the weekend
  12. Thanks Janey:thumbup1: The barn has some beautiful craft items for sale inside it, as well as of course and most importantly the bar!!
  13. Weird and Wonderful Wood - 14th and 15th of May 2011 Once again this event is being held in the grounds of Haughley Park, Suffolk. Each year I've loosely arranged a little get-together for members of Arbtalk. Camping is available for those who enjoy a bevvy or 2. Last year we had an impromptu climbing event once again, and held a simple rigging demo for the public to see how the job can be done. Anyone wishing to come along is more than welcome. PS Liam, keep the archers well away from us again this year
  14. Wow, pat that man on the back from me, very generous indeed. My faith in mankind has been restored:thumbup: Can you confirm that Johnny won the 2nd little clock I put in please?
  15. Wow, what a great start in this career. Its so good to see the Apprenticeship programme being utilised to the full to progress new guys into the trade. Its a shame more cant or wont invest in the future, Best of luck where ever you move on to:thumbup: .
  16. I dont know true it is, but one taxi driver told me one late night/early morning that the police turn a blind eye to them speeding at 3am ish, they want the town centres cleared quickly and efficiently when the clubs and bars clear out to reduce the potential of trouble.
  17. Most admirable, Tony. You are vindicated. Life will continue to have a purpose.
  18. Would it be beyond the realms of possiblilty for you to survey the standards of this hostelry my good man? Perhaps the mere mention of the potential to earn good money that weekend will encourage them to meet our every need
  19. I havent voted on this poll, as there isnt a category for me! Where does your loyalty lie? = Earning money from tree work First and foremost, I do this job/career/vocation in order to make a living in an environment I enjoy. I do what I believe is right for the clients trees, balancing what the client requires with what the tree needs to survive. Maybe thats not ideal or perfect in some opinions, but thats just me. By all means save a dead stump occasionally, but we also need to consider the future, by removing and re-planting, a dead tree cant reproduce. Though I know I sound like a tree mercenary, I've probably planted more trees in a season than I fell in a year, and these are to extend ancient woodlands to create buffer zones between the needs of agriculture and the needs of woodlands. I also plant many trees for ornamental reasons, these will come on to replace failing old vets in time, they will enable inverts to carry on their life cycles and so on. Deep down I do care for trees and the environment, but I do have to earn a living in the meantime, and in the way I think I can make a small difference.
  20. I am but a simple tree-cutter, I plant woodlands for the future so that other simple tree-cutters can go and fell them. That is my livelihood, and I enjoy this livelihood. In my breaks I watch the wildlife around me, undisturbed by the sound of my saw. Deer will graze just down the ride, butterflies flutter past and the wee mini-beasts crawl around in the undergrowth, unaffected by my presence (well maybe a little bit) but they will carry on with their little lives. Mankind has very little lasting effect on this planet, and it will all be there long after we are dust.
  21. Spot on. BTW there is no need whatsoever for a thread to turn nasty, its a discussion forum, people dont always see eye-to-eye, I can agree to disagree. Where is the sense in getting all hot under the collar, just have mutual respect thats all.
  22. My loyalty is to my family, to earn money at a job I enjoy. I've planted woodlands, felled dead old trees, planted some more trees, and felled even more nice healthy trees in the course of my job, and I'll go and more plenty more in the future. Its my livelihood
  23. Ignorance? That is not respectful of anothers point of view now is it, and I find it a little rude tbh, but luckily I have a thick skin, broad shoulders and thick enough skull to not be particularly bothered. I'll let you get back to your worthy cause, and take up no more of your valuable time tonight. Good luck in your quest Tony
