  1. There is a practical half-way between the two extremes. I'll call it "good practice" Stay tied in at all times - twice if your behaving yourself. Even though you don't do the paper-work, look after your kit & inspect it on a regular basis. Limit 1 handed saw use & cut & holding. When done, done with care - plus try & use slings on bigger bits as it protects your elbows Save all your MEWP jobs up & try & do them in a day etc Not what many want to hear but it's that sadly lacking common sense application. It's a hard industry that required physical & mental toughness & the essential use of grey matter.
  2. No. Same job, just spending longer wearing hi-viz. I hate the cheap ones as Velcro never stays shut. I have some with a zip at the moment - a big improvement but always looking to get a more substantial one as opposed to disposable ones currently used
  3. How do you estimate the tax you are going to pay?
  4. Bailey's - Oregon Surveyors Safety Vest Does anyone selll these or anything comparable here in the UK?
  5. Unless your milling, do you really need a massive saw that, although looking pretty on the shelf, will try & kick your butt everytime you use one? 66 or 395 depending will fell 99.9% of trees here in the UK
  6. Dual port muffler is available from any good stihl dealer. It is a production part
  7. Not tried it with a large line to be honest. 1/2 inch max
  8. It does work very well Rich.
  9. When assessed did every saw have a new sprocket chain & bar. Bad sharpening & wear of the others will give erroneous results
  10. rec climbing does not require the same speed functionality of kit used commercially
  11. It's only slipping in one place?
  12. Can you put an extra wrap on your prussic? It probably will solve the problem Sometimes when cordage is new it can be a little slippy
  13. Something to ponder - Get a really long rope, cut it into 2. Then, whilst using your new 2 rope system, pretend your using both ends of the same rope. Win, win situation with a massively reduced chance of hurting yourself!!!!
  14. Not Bob's gig. Planning has there own idiots
  15. Can you repollard (in this case re-coppice) without consent?
  16. Junkie scum are often the universal commonality joining nations.
  17. Pop-up piston & port work looks great. Be nice to see the gains from all that hard work. Would it not have been easier to buy a Stihl instead
  18. Look OK for the money - not sure about the colour.....
  19. Link to the jacket?
  20. I think it came from srt access. The inability/difficulty of descending due to gear limitations made other avenues be explored. Not relevant for working IMO.
  21. Nice work. Was there a reason for your back-cut being so high when you felled the stem?
  22. When rigging, a length of rigging line can often be more effective than a sling as it is more adjustable in length, but not as easy to carry. Who uses there slings for life support & rigging?
  23. The GRCS has recently been upgraded. The harken winch has been lengthened to allow more wraps with larger cordage diameters & the fairlead has been fabricated from metal by all accounts.
