  1. Running a tracked Jensen a340t that is a legal 3.5t with trailer. Even Bandit do a legal tow 12” tracked machine now.
  2. The Swazi is a really good jacket. It was one of my better investments
  3. The rain was pouring down. And there, standing in front of a big puddle outside the pub, was an old Irishman, drenched, holding a stick, with a piece of string dangling in the water. A passer-by stopped and asked, "What are you doing?" "Fishing," replied the old man. Feeling sorry for the old man, the gent says, "Come in out of the rain and have a drink with me." In the warmth of the pub, as they sip their whiskies, the gentleman cannot resist asking, "So how many have you caught today?" "You're the eighth." says the old man..
  4. I will be doing Friday and Saturday too.
  5. 462 will be worth strong money if it runs well. 461 less so as an older model, but not by much. what condition is the 461 in ?- dm me if you want to move it on
  6. It’s noticeable in a few woodland I have worked in locally. I have been wondering about transferring it between sites on saws and vehicles - another significant disease on the back of ash dieback and phytopthera would be devastating 👎
  7. You need to speak to a good land agent. They can help and advise you, not only to calculate appropriate compensation but also make it all happen if you choose to go ahead
  8. I have worked with a few companies over the years that only paid travel one way. The clock would start when they left base and knocked off when you left site.
  9. Hexa is a good chain for clean wood - cuts fast and little vibration, but dulls really quickly if any dirt . Simple to sharpen too. Easier than round ground ,
  10. A lot of the first members here came from the Treehouse, myself included
  11. How does the outreach compare?

    Deposits

I have taken TM costs and hired in plant cost before when I thought necessary as a deposit As for payment - 7 days unless agreed beforehand. I have been paid by the NHS, local government and many National firms within the week.
  13. Another Jensen fan - build quality is awesome. Some of the newer models have got smaller engines, just be aware. Schleising are awesome, so are some of the Greenmech models. Timberwolf make some good chippers too. Forst will outperform most chippers hands down, but I would not like to own one out of warranty- the reliability is not there hence the low resale value.
  14. 4 people for 650? Where is the profit ? Going to cost 500plus a day if they are on minimum wage before saws, ppe transport etc
  15. I have climbed some absolutely horrible Ash trees over the last year. My justification was simple - I could not get a MEWP to a single one of them - why take the risk if you don’t need too?
  16. Self employment has been the best choice for me, as I found being an employee frustrating and oppressive. In many ways, like others, I am not employable. Would I ever work for someone again? Very unlikely, but I never say never - it would have to be an exceptional company to tempt me.
  17. We have been running the Stihl comms for nearly a year now. So far, in addition to the increase in safety, we have noticed a massive decrease in stress, due to the lack of shouting and misunderstanding. Increase in productivity and we have also been able to bring climbers on quicker, as we can quietly and calmly talk them through tasks outside there comfort zone, or simply give them helpful feedback. It is easy to become a gobshite and try and micro manage everything when running a site, however if I feel like I am, I simply turn the mic off and only reply to questions .
  18. Nothing wrong with 3 strand for rigging, just use it appropriately. I buy it 200m at a time cheap from trawler suppliers and melt it for fun. I think you need another LOLER inspector to be honest.
  19. I think we all need to stop feeding the troll - hopefully he will disappear back into his hedgerow from whence he came
  20. Refresher training is a positive in my books. I did last year and things change, you forget things and what is the cost of doing 2 days every 5 years, to keep you refreshed on both aerial and ground based units? It’s been 29 years since I did my original tickets and keeping up to date by upskilling and refresher training has done me no harm at all.
  21. Bad luck 👎
  22. That looks like a lot of hard work- good job. Was it decayed or did the customer have the usual obsession with trees being too big and need “controlling” 😆
  23. No worries and good luck
  24. North east is a bloody big place. If you’re in Alnwick no point asking you to work in Whitby!
