  1. It is definitely not for beginners. I have spent today felling ash on quite a steep site and it’s not fun. A few big limbs came flying back at me and the first of these two trees split up to 20ft - real barbers chair. About 18 inches at the stump and cut with a dogs tooth, I could have done nothing different. In contrast, the next tree behaved perfectly
  2. Good day at the office. Brought a Merlo-roto in to make things much easier.
  3. You are showing your complete lack of experience. No one puts one in the truck every day, however when you do, they earn some good money. There is a,world beyond polyprop and a prussic
  4. Do you have to cut a sleeve off your hi-vis hoody and put a couple of eye holes in it, to make a balaclava before you go pricing ? 😂
  5. Terminology will not help. I talk about stump grinding, not removal. Go to site, have a dig about and see if there is anything left. If not present the option of small claims or payment. Don’t take it personally and explain that they should not if you take them to court - it’s just business
  6. There was something to be said for it. Simpler times
  7. This is worrying- I run 2 pickups, both double cabs. One dedicated to the business, the other probably used 3 days a week at work and also doubles as our car. Due to where I live, I don’t really have an option other than running 4x4’s. In tandem with all the other cost increases, I am not sure how long running small businesses will be viable
  8. Chip more volume in a fraction of the time- does not get any better !
  9. I had just finished renovating my old house when this place started. Very different crowd now and few of the old members are still here, which is sad in some ways.
  10. Nice - I really would like an e27, it would work well for my small setup. Probably hunt for one in spring
  11. Some from recent wanderings. Been a really good year for them
  12. Urgency is probably something due to firewood demand in early October.
  13. I was onsite years ago when a car was moved. The owner was a real PITA and knew well what he was doing, so one of the lads brought some dollies. The car got pushed 20m up the road and down a back street, where it was turned 90 degrees across the road, in a position impossible to move from.
  14. Morning all. Having a break and a coffee away from the paperwork. Currently watching the rain bounce off the conservatory roof. Not the most inspiring of days, but productive at least. IMG_8020.HEIC
  15. Where are you based? Someone reading who is local to you might be able to help.
  16. Running a tracked Jensen a340t that is a legal 3.5t with trailer. Even Bandit do a legal tow 12” tracked machine now.
  17. The Swazi is a really good jacket. It was one of my better investments
  18. The rain was pouring down. And there, standing in front of a big puddle outside the pub, was an old Irishman, drenched, holding a stick, with a piece of string dangling in the water. A passer-by stopped and asked, "What are you doing?" "Fishing," replied the old man. Feeling sorry for the old man, the gent says, "Come in out of the rain and have a drink with me." In the warmth of the pub, as they sip their whiskies, the gentleman cannot resist asking, "So how many have you caught today?" "You're the eighth." says the old man..
  19. I will be doing Friday and Saturday too.
  20. 462 will be worth strong money if it runs well. 461 less so as an older model, but not by much. what condition is the 461 in ?- dm me if you want to move it on
  21. It’s noticeable in a few woodland I have worked in locally. I have been wondering about transferring it between sites on saws and vehicles - another significant disease on the back of ash dieback and phytopthera would be devastating 👎
  22. You need to speak to a good land agent. They can help and advise you, not only to calculate appropriate compensation but also make it all happen if you choose to go ahead
  23. I have worked with a few companies over the years that only paid travel one way. The clock would start when they left base and knocked off when you left site.
  24. Hexa is a good chain for clean wood - cuts fast and little vibration, but dulls really quickly if any dirt . Simple to sharpen too. Easier than round ground ,
