  1. Not your tree & not your house, so unless it is dangerous you are out of options.
  2. Nice John - is it a big step up from your tracked Vermeer?
  3. Must be nearly 0.5 cubic M - so 250-300kg? Easy to generate massive forces with that. More than likely cycles to failure, especially if it used a few times in rapid succession how old is it?
  4. Sip kieu is a good summer/light winter jacket. Swazi is the best I have ever owned by far - can be a little warm for summertime
  5. Has anyone meshed the Protos comms with the Stihl ?
  6. Arbortec are nice to wear, however they fall apart and are too fragile. SIPS & Pfanner are far better constructed
  7. If you list your location and working radius it might help you a little 👍
  8. Either Pfanner or Haix - arbortec or the new mendl s are just not up to the job. They even feel cheap in comparison
  9. I agree Matty - self loathing is a powerful motivator . it is interesting how many left handed dyslexics I have worked with.
  10. Look at stock board. Different diameters for different jobs though as the thicker ones weigh a bit. I use it for roadways, covering greenhouses roofs etc.
  11. Looking good Thom - glad you are still making them 👍
  12. Irrespective if you use the top strap or not, a bollard is a massive step up in usability. I only use a portawrap for the lightest rigging these days, anything else I just grab the Hobbs.
  13. I mentioned this on another thread. I completely believe that if an individual works hard for 40 hours a week they should be paid enough to feed, cloth and house themselves and have a life. In this context a paramedic is a degree trainer practitioner, so If they cannot, then it is not there fault.
  14. Fiscal and social policy needs to change - neoliberalism is the death of society. The rifts it has created in society is criminal.. You know things are broken when two parents each work 40 hours a week and yet struggle to Pay rent or own there own home. It’s not there fault that is for sure
  15. If the wraps are removed one at a time and in a controlled way I have found zero problems. I just see the rope brake as a gimmick to eradicate a problem that can be solved with 5 minutes of training.
  16. I only climb on long spikes now - took a month or so to re-adjust then it felt natural. Just stick with it
  17. 22 when I had the misfortune of stumbling across Arb - just turned 50 and don’t feel a day over 60 😎
  18. At last - is your arse still really sore ?
  19. 4 or 5 days on the tool. I do however work everyday, be it calls, viewing work, maintaining kit and sitting down to do some book work. My aim is to be 5 days all in. Don’t mind long hours, but 2 days off a week is needed. Next step is getting a new mobile so I can switch the work one off on Friday evening.
  20. More click bait - if you don’t click on em, he will disappear soon enough
  21. Dropped out of uni without a clue what to do. Saw a trainee climber job advertised at the dole office offering the princely some of £10 on top my giro to learn. I was not scared of hard work and it seemed like a good idea getting paid to climb trees, so without an idea what it was about, I applied. That was about 27 years ago…….
  22. The pay/reward system in the UK is so screwed. I know of appallingly poor climbers and cutters getting paid £250 per day on HS2 and local companies offering good ones £12.00 per hour. I pay a minimum of £150 per day to my cutters when I need them - I pay them more if I can. £150 will hardly keep a roof over there heads in most places - I will break that down a bit; £20 fuel to and from work £20 to fill a combican £5 towards chain, bar sprocket £3 towards ppe £3 towards saw £5 food and drink - that comes to £56 and there are plenty of things omitted. Even at those figures I am only paying a qualified s/employed cutter £11.30ish an hour? This bullshit economic system we have sure knowns how to punish those who want to work for a living
  23. You live in Hampshire- 75% of the country has significantly less money. Your being a little naive with your pricing unfortunately
  24. Petzl vertex. Well constructed and comfortable and the muff visor mounts are good.
  25. Hope you sold the timber as the finest yellow ash 😂
