  1. Really don’t like jam shed, but after this thread had to detour and drive past Lidl 🤪
  2. Lidl do some stunning wines for the money. They do a good couple of bottles of Shiraz as standard & a good Rioja & Cabernet too. You need to look out for the occasional appearance of the second fleet label - the merlot & Shiraz are stunning
  3. Bloc is fine as long as it can take 7t plus. just be careful what you anchor it with. Wire strop probably the way to go, but they are not kind to retention trees. Tennex is an option
  4. @MattyFlooks like your going to busy for a bit !
  5. You have to factor in the rebuilding of older saws. Rubber components degraded by petrol do not like the change ☹️
  6. If you put some kind of microswitch on the front handle, it would inhibit use, especially shedding where the front hand moves constantly. It may work for a 2nd rate arb who just cross cuts or works by a chipper, however the saws are designed to be used ergonomically & stupid “make it safe” fads are only going to detract. Safety is increased through good training and application of common sense to that base knowledge. Be careful what you all wish for, - remember the fiasco with 2 rope working !
  7. They are suffering like every other ash with ADB around us.
  8. Is all one handed use unsafe ?- it is still taught I believe at extremes of reach in appropriate situations.
  9. Training is always an issue. The employer (as the customer of the training companies) has shaped the product. They want an employee to learn as much as they can, in the shorted possible time at minimal cost, so what you get is this current farce of low skilled workers. Alarmingly, the current certification is no longer a certificate of competence & the employer is supposed to assess whether they are fit to carry out a task. Sadly I know of many employers who are not fit to use a saw themselves professionally, never mind dictate to others. I guess what I am saying it that for me the system is broken, however whist the industry needs staff, trained cheaply and insurable, then that is all the system will ever produce
  10. Properly sharpened chains would massively reduce accidents- a blunt chain radically changes how a saw is operated.
  11. I am aware of shortcomings in my Arb insurance. For example my tracked chipper is not insure on a job if out of visual site without the fitting of a track clamp - really! I am currently looking at generic commercial insurance without the Arb limitations as I feel we are being unfairly targeted 🙁
  12. I have some leather straps kicking about if you want em.
  13. Forgot is was mushroom season- you have many 🤩
  14. Your a bit too myopic in your views for me. I am seeing the collapse of an already stressed ecosystem. & in 10,000 years our species will be no more than a bad memory, which for the planet will be a relief I bet.
  15. It is devastating locally- some woodlands are 80% ash with hazel, elm and sycamore and a little oak. They are not looking good ☹️
  16. Now you are saying that many will not post here because of what? Our inability to tolerate bullshit? You are beginning to resemble the fundamental snowflake who can never be wrong.
  17. If you run it rich enough it will smoke - OP said that it was running well.
  18. If it is producing white smoke when running at normal temp, then it is burning something in addition to aspen and 2 Stoke mix. Rinse the tank out, add fresh fuel & try again.
  19. When using plastic wedges, I like other’s use an axe or deadlow hammer, depending on what is to hand. Usually take an axe if in the woods, as it can save some time getting a stuck saw free. If I am using high lift wedges I get something heavy, like a splitting maul or sledge hammer.
  20. The more I see it, the more it looks and performs similar to square ground & looks a thousand times easier to file. For comparison; not perfect as I hand file.
  21. I think the AA risk assessment package has it in - sorry I don’t have a copy. Did they stipulate a qualified banksman?
  22. The new Stihl 400 is impressing a lot of people, as is the slightly bigger 462.
  23. I usually offer to do less for a reduction in price. In reality, it usually depends on how keen the price was initially and if you want or need the job. I price quite keenly & there is seldom any movement on price.
  24. Are you wanting to climb trees for work, professionally or fun?
