  1. Spend nothing - go real old school and use a becket hitch
  2. Doubtful - fit for purpose no doubt
  3. Anyone imported one recently? If so what was the cost including duty?
  4. Out on the beech a few weeks ago with the youngster ?
  5. Wonder if the job is in sparkford? ?
  6. This behaviour has cost a friend of mine a significant amount of money ( & stress). After 3 years of irregular work, his subbing announced that he had not been paying tax, had no UTR and wanted all his tax paying and holiday pay etc - the courts reluctantly backed him & payment had to be made - be warned folks
  7. ...
  8. Got 2 also - must try harder ?
  9. Great saws - I will be very surprised if you find one new
  10. Have you any experience of using it as a saw or just for milling?
  11. Dead alyanthus- leathal with horizontal cracks and anything that is so rotten that the timber has the structural integrity of a bag of compost!
  12. If you have not got a good rigging point & tie in point, then tie in and choose the cheapest target to bomb. Cranes can be a massive help and if they complain about the cost then suggest option1 !
  13. You really need to understand the industry a little more before taking the plunge at your age. It has very little resemblance to anything you will see or learn on any training course & the standard you will trained too is far short of what you need to achieve. You will probably need to work a couple of years at or slightly above minimum wage and work hard to earn it. Try it for a good few months before investing serious capital in my opinion. Like Matty, I have been in the industry many years and have seen many older trainees come and go, without a good word to say about the industry & a bag of regrets.
  14. If the AA see it we will have to climb in it too!?
  15. Normal rate on Saturday and double on a Sunday. Never been paid or charged any different
  16. Agreed - strong, cheap disposable rope like polysteel is the way forward
  17. If you can't make a harness last more than a couple of years you must surely make enough money to replace it by then. How long do tyres last if you wheelspin everywhere? ?
  18. Sorry I missed that.
  19. Have you tried contacting them directly to ask for help and advice? I am sure they could do something ( the contact form is at the foot of the page) https://www.simarghu.com/
  20. If it is showing signs of ash die back then it's days are numbered anyway, so a 10 year management plan will probably be a fell it next year. Once it is infected, I am refusing to do any works on ash trees other than felling (or crown removal leaving stem for habitat). This might not be the best approach, but after working an felling trees with severe decline, I rapidly came to the conclusion that the sooner they are removed post infection the safer and easier.
  21. I cut 3m for firewood (logdeck size ) - for produce I cut 3.2 or larger. You need to sort your market out before deciding
  22. Oh so simple when there is no pain, blood or adrenaline and your not hanging between two anchor points
  23. That looks like an awesome bit of kit !
  24. I know the math and have destroyed rigging & rigging points. Well explained
  25. Yes - it will be (theoretically) twice the load applied.
