Two rope technique on a fir tree

Not with the tape sling girth hitched. You'd need to look into a different set up entirely, and probably would need to use 2 separate lines -

Are you attaching the 1 rope midline to the anchor point then using the 2 legs for your lifelines? Yes an alpine would work fine. -
Find it hard to believe how anyone can't understand how/why a tapered hinge works, its pretty straight forward stuff. Like you I used to use it all the time. Is your original article still kicking around? I'd love to get it posted in the article section here. I may have asked you that before?

Everytime I finish a climb I slide the zigzag back up to the spliced eye as im retrieving the rope so not being midline attachable is a non issue. There will be a period of adjustment in your muscles when you switch to a smaller diameter rope but you will adjust, assuming you are reasonably fit and strong. Do you wear gloves? This makes a big difference to grip. Also you will really notice the difference in rope drag between 11.7mm and 13mm.
-
Moving house next week and anticipating internet down time, so i'm living in the office at the moment making sure I am caught up with everything
-
I'd definetly move over to a zigag if I were you! 11.7mm, don't go for anything thicker than that. The Yale blue moon or any of the Yale 11.7mm ropes work great. They are basically all the same rope anyway

Theres certainly some good deals about eggs

I'd say that should probably come off

Two rope technique on a fir tree
Steve Bullman replied to WildClimbing's topic in Rigging and roping
that will be plenty strong enough. And no it won't fall down if its set correctly Trick will be getting just the right length of sling to go round the trunk twice then girth hitch. That won't be going anywhere in a hurry -

So a suitably rated tape sling with a mallion rapide on the end will probably work fine, just double wrap and then girth hitch the tape sling around the trunk. It won't go nowhere. -

Can you please explain what rope system/technique you will be using
