I'm sure most people had the same message about financial prudence when they were growing up, so I don't know how it's all gone so wrong.

because people generally are greedy and stupid and rush to spend money they dont have on shite they dont need, only to replace said shite 6 months later for new shite they dont need bought with money they still dont have

I have been following the war in Ukraine  daily since it started . And what is happening now has been building for some months . Prigozhin and his Vargner mercenary army have suffered heavy losses in their attempt to take the ruin that is Bahkmot ( spelling ) and " hand " it over to regular Russian forces only to see it being taken back by Ukraine . He has been super critical of Putins generals without actually criticizing Putin directly . After accusing the Russian artillery of shelling his men and mining their withdrawal it is not surprising that he is now marching on to Moscow . I think Putins days are numbered and Russia will end up divided into many smaller states , each ruled over by assorted " gangsters .  Just my take .

Ah , just seen this has all been covered in the other recent thread specifically about the war . Ignore this old duffer !

Or alternatively he can see the writing on the wall and maybe just maybe the Yankee dollar 💵 still has some appeal.

Strange how the media never seem to ask the people with savings and no mortgage about the interest rate increases! I guess good news isn't news...

And what percentage of the population is that? A minute one I expect. Yes for these lucky few it will be a nice wee cash boost to add to their nest egg  but on the other hand multiple millions will be crippled.

But yeh, I’d love to hear about some Boomer enjoying another holiday next year because the interest rate has gone up. Great news article that would make. 🙄

roughly speaking about 1/3 of houses are owned ( mortgage free ) 1/3 are rented and 1/3 have a mortgage , many with a percentage paid off ( plenty of equity )  so in reality it does not affect as many people as it would first appear ...no consolation for those that it does though !!!

A tory saying increases in tax would be better method to target infaltion than interest rates rises...

Quote

If the government wants to curtail the spending of older, richer people, it needs to tax them, say some. David Gauke, a former Conservative Treasury minister, said: “Ministers could consider taking measures such as increasing taxes to redistribute the pain. The challenge all authorities have at the moment is about the distribution of pain, but the pain can’t be avoided when the economy is running too hot.”

So we will help you by taxing you more 🤷‍♂️that’s thanks you get for being a hard working responsible type your whole working life 😡Tories I’m sad to say are literally out of ideas big time, worse than that the opposition don’t have anything whatsoever to bring to the table.
