Yeh, I can see that the shit could hit the fan quite easily. I think we could produce a large portion of what we need here in the UK if people started to produce their own food. We're taking this a bot more seriously this year. We're gonna greatly increase the veg plot, too late for this seasons growing, or at least the first part of it. But its good to be prepared. And although its hard work its satisfying work. I cant tend to it much working away but the missus is more on-board so she'll be helping more. But Ive already got loads planted in pots waiting to go out to the Polytunnles.

Yes immigration at the unsustainable levels we're seeing in the UK and Europe as a whole is pure madness, but try telling the Bleeding Heart Lefties this. By the time comes to say 'I told you so' It will be to late for everyone. Ah well.

hopefully you'll be even more skinted out in a minute and I can have that motor off you for a grand

Cos that would be rather offensive.  K

well the last bad virus was 1918, the last famine around 1845-1850, - at that time we didn't have the crop protection available today, or GM,

Do GM crops make it better or worse? As I understand it the Irish potato famine was due to a Phytophthora that killed the entire crop across the country, of one variety of potato, in around six weeks.

Reducing diversity seems a step backwards.

The Irish Potato crop failure was caused by blight, the famine was caused by English landlords shipping vast quantities of food out of the country at the same time...

I think without GM there wouldnt be enough food. I know the technical point youre making about random mutations and natural selection. But to be able to add resistance to some forms of blight can reduce pesticide use
