Garage let me down

I always repaired my own vehicles and the only thing I had done recently was a bearing removed from a hub I took to the garage. Any welding I do myself and always have. Garages are bodgers when it comes to welding they do the minimum possible for the most they can charge and slap a load of gloop on to disguise it. If your motor needs welding work it is not going to last you much longer. Start looking for a new van don't delay the inevitable and keep throwing good money after bad.

Not every garage is a bodger.

Just like in this business you need to choose a reputable company.

I bet the there are loads of people who buy a set of spanners and call them selves a mechanic. Probably a spannertalk forum where everyones is moaning that the industry is going to the dogs because of all the new start ups doing cheap crap jobs and giving it a bad name.:001_tongue:

Unlucky to the op, I hope you get it sorted quickly and don't forget to shop about so you know where to take it to next time.

Same here, bought 2 post lift from Germany for £400 about 20 years ago, never been near a garage apart from MOTs.

Youtube is fantastic for finding an easy way

For instance our Volvo Estate had a problem with the ABS which we diagnosed as a broken reluctor ring. Never heard of it before, but it is the cog like ring which tells the sensor that the wheel is still turning or locked.

Found a firm working from a farm which posted me one next day for £35

Youtube showed how to take the shaft out of the hub without dismantling suspension. Take old ring off and clean, heat up new one on a gas ring until it turns blue, slip it on and job done, all in a couple of hours.

Saw someone who had the same job done at a Volvo main dealer where they changed the whole driveshaft plus boots, plus dismantled suspension, job was over £1000 a lot of which was labour, plus he was without a car for some time.

I admire you guys that can fix anything, I'm reasonably competent but you've got to know your limits, that volvo abs fix would have been well beyond me.

Yesterday I got a text from him, At the MOT station the Vota something is down. Today I got a text the vota what ever that is up, and MOT at 16:00. Now its 16:55 still nothing from this guy. I have totally lost confidence in him and I don't think he will reply and if he replies it will be bad news or another B **** story. Sick and tired on this clown ! I'm in need of some good news, I need my van back !!! when I turn up he shake life a leaf and bombard me with story telling.

Wait till you get your Mog Stefan....

MOG there will be, but in a distant future. And from now i will do all prep job for MOT's myself. I don't understand how he can promise and promise, was to be a MOT yesterday, and today, one text he sent me today he was on his way down to get it done, the next i answer Passed ?? then he answer the Mot have not phoned him yet. I have even offered him to go down there myself and get the job done using his welding equipment and cutting tools. I spoke to my neighbor, fiancé spoke about it at her work, and she can talk.. Now he got negative feedback, and it will affect his business. And in some strange way i feel guilty over that... Scrolling down my phone and there is so many excuses. This van have failed in rust in a few places, so the job is to cut it out and clean the area, cut new metal bits and weld it on, and rust treat it. If i done it myself i recon it would take me 6 hours in total. So could have it done in a day. Or he could have worked 2 late nights at his workshop and finish the job. I'm to old to go down there and start a big argument, it will lead to nothing. I got a car needs a service and his place will be the last i go to after this. Told him the 17th is the very very latest i can get it back, due to work started at that date. This is the 31st and he still giving me story telling i know is lies. Feels this is all i can think about now. I have never came across a guy like this in my life, fiancé had spoken to some who said He never should have stopped cleaning cars he is not a mechanic. So that was his last trade.. Confidence is very low right now.
