When does a person become a "tree surgeon"?

From AFAG

16 In-house, college or specialist training needs to provide

an equivalent standard of training to any recognised training

and certification that is available, but not mandatory. This

means that detailed records need to be kept to show who

provided the training (including their level of competence), what

the training consisted of, its duration and how it was carried out.

Post-course assessment of competence and a system of quality

assurance will also be needed.

Fine in theory, but I would hate to have to defend inhouse training and certification to the gent in the wig when the poo has hit the fan.

good post pete for a change

thankyou for taking the time to find that

rather than your usual drivel:001_smile:

You do not "legally" need NPTC or PL.

If you employ staff you DO "legally" need EL.

It really irritates me when people talk about "chainsaw licenses" and say NPTC is LAW, IT IS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO, PL should be a legal requirement, but its not.

As stated there are only 2 legally required insurances, employers and motor vehicle. That info came from the NFU during a discussion.

Interesting document Pete

From AFAG805

3 Employers must provide training during working hours and

employees should not have to pay for it.

21 Arborists operating a chainsaw during tree-climbing operations

need to have the additional Certificates of Competence, CS40

‘Carry out pruning operations’ and/or CS41 ‘Undertake sectional

felling’, as relevant. Groundsmen should hold the industry

recognised NPTC Certificate of Competence CS45.

Does everyone have these tickets ?

The thing is who says that cs40-41 are needed to work in the tree they are only optional.

cs30-31-38-39 are what are most common asked for.

I rarely get asked for them but never ever been asked about 40-41.

tech cert rfs etc dont make you a tree surgeon thats just one half of the coin

a combination of cs30-31-38-39-40-41 plus either rfs or aa techcert etc that imo makes you fully qualified. Should include chipper stump grinder ticket mewp is optional if you use them.

The Information is from AFAG. So do they think that 40/41 are optional?

So true,

Qualifications are not proof the person can do quality work only that they passed specific tests.

People work at different levels some are naturally talented some are not some should stick to the books and tests and some should get on with it.

Personally i go to work to earn money doing something i really love doing.

That for me makes me happy titles dont.:001_tt1:
