With all the extra weight built in to modern vehicles to make them safer/more luxurious/bigger yet still with the same 3.5t limit why cant they up the weight limit on these so they can run legally? An old smiley Transit is going to be less kerb weight than a brand new Transit yet the new Transit will be safer for carrying more payload due to better/newer mechanics and modern structural integrity. So why not up the official payload to 4t or 4.5t and have people driving around safely within the law?

You can up the payload. However you also need to uprate your licence too.

I couldn't agree more!

Fir the simple reason it wouldn’t! No matter what the law allows you to run human nature and the nature of the job will always win through!

The 6.5 and 7.5 ton trucks are much better suited for tree work... What we need to do is clamp down on those running overloaded and make it normal to have an appropriate truck and licence..

If 3000kg+ vans came under the same regs as those over 3500kg re tacho & O licence people would use the right vehicle for the job.

 

A 3500kg vehicle is not a real load carrier.

Let's have this picture thread back containing at least one picture per page, spotted earlier, not on a public highway at the time and no evidence he was or will be but we all know the likely hood it has or will be out there!

Get some of the pictures from India . They are masters of the overloaded .  Trains are a good example . Sometimes you can't see the locomotive for people hanging off it !
