Only if it's sweet chestnut will the tannins show readily in contact with water and ferrous metal. The picture shows horse chestnut, which is unrelated to horse chestnut. :thumbup1:

I'm talking about the blue stain from horse chestnut caused by aesculin, not sweet chestnut and tannins.

 

I'm aware they are two different species, if that's what you mean.

Lol I'm so glad that there is such a difference of opinion on this as I'm the tree surgeon who is next to the poster and I really struggled to guess what it was! I was leaning towards Sitka with sum pop and willow mixed in there "and the odd off cut of palet wood" it was a real shoddy sale and the seller should be ashamed and the bad quality and quantity of wood supplied. Also I did a moisture reading and it came in at an average of 28%

That pretty good for Horse Chestnut (which it appears to be)

I didn't realise horse chestnut would do the same, albeit due to different process. You learn something new every day :thumbup1:
