Video of the felling today.

I don't get it. Why put a winch (tied on too low) on such small trees that you could push by hand or use a felling lever.

Maybe the men in the picture are 16ft tall and the trees are bigger than they appear.

Or maybe 120mph wind in the wrong direction.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Its the ashridge estate, they have lots of money and lots of toys to play with, so why not play with them!:001_smile:

I did think the very same thing, also why not get the chipper nearer:confused1:

Yes I topped a biggish one (well biggish for over here, maybe 80ft) last year in Padiham, I ended up changing my lanyard for a new length of cord and my 020 still has some resin encrusted on the handle, sticky, sticky!!

Have the same problem here with Douglas Firs. Gets to the point where mechanical or rope hitches just don't work. We've taken to using a length of Cobra bracing sheath over the top of lanyards to stop gunking and they work well.

So yes we could have probably pushed them over but we have the winch and didn't want to risk it going wrong!

We are normally in the woods without much other stuff to hit and the wind was gusting up to 40mph ish, as well as it was so easy to just chuck the cable round.

Just press the button rather than messing with wedges!

And the grass was wet and made sense to put tractor and chipper there keeps the chips in the same place.
