Just Priced a job to fell 40 confers and stack in 3 piles for the owner to burn at £1000, the owner said the other quote was £3000 not sure what planet the other guys are on or wheather they want to do a few jobs and retire but Ill be in and out in a day and a half.

Sometimes I think it's just a lottery in regards to who you price against.

Sometimes ridiculously cheap, other times ridiculously over the top.

Just the other week priced a job in at £300 took 2 1/2 hours of work, next cheapest was £700 and someone wanted £1000! No specialist gear just standard transit and 6 inch chipper.

More often than not though it works in exactly the opposite direction.:laugh1:

The bloke who priced at £3000 is probably bitching about how much he got undercut by.

People seem to bitch if they get undercut and then can't believe it when someone puts in a higher price.

Ideally I'd of won that job at £2900!

I might get under cut on the job as I said im only the second person to quote and the job isnt in the bag yet. Ill keep you posted

I only moan about pricing when a customer is a pain in the bum ringing every 10 minutes to get me out, for the job to be an hours work at £60, then to be told that they've had a price of £40 and got a few other companies to still come out and ouote , I cant blame them for trying to get the cheapest deal but its always the customers that ring countless times to do a tiny job that never end up having it done :confused1:

Even worse are people that ask for a quote when really there just picking your brains so they can do it them selfs :001_rolleyes:

Some customers need more training than others. There will always be under cutters. and DIY as well. You much less anyone else are for the most part in business for your self. Don't take what the other guy charges seriously, sooner or later they will be out of business, you will be left standing and still in business.

My mate down in Plymouth went up a tree with a borrowed saw in his garden to take the top off so he could watch the F1 powerboats from his patio. The top twisted and caught the saw, he fell 15ft and landed on his back followed by the saw which removed the bicep on his right arm.

He's made a remarkable recovery but it took 2 years of therapy and hospital visits which must have cost him thousands in lost earnings and transport etc.

Few quid to a surgeon seems like a good idea after all. I'm no surgeon and am very careful what I take on. I have invested in good saws and good protection and use it as well as reading up on safety and using common sense and plenty of caution. Accidents can happen to anyone on an off day but with a chainsaw they can be life changing.

So it's you that's undercutting me then....:001_tt2:

Wise words mates.

The problem is when you're slack you need more money!

I think there are basically two pricing tiers.

Time served tree blokes with tickets, insurance etc. and have a go gardeners/dids/kids with their daddy's farm toys etc.
