What you are missing though, is that the brakes get used a lot less in electric cars, so much less brake dust.  As for weight, you are correct batteries are heavy, but overall weight only about 10% more.

Hmm maybe good point, never driven one myself.

On the other hand I think the idea still stands that not including tyre or brake in the emissions standards leads to monster "clean" cars that aren't clean at all. Probably with good tax incentives.

Agreed, however the newer fleets of electric tube trains and overground units use regenerative braking as well and so use less power overall.

1 to save wear and tear and 2 after an upgrade in the power control network and systems it is able to use the generated power and hence lessen the power demand. Not network wide yet but it'll be there in the next few years.

Wasn't there a report that said the largest polluting thing in London was the tube.

The largest polluting thing in London is the government. If people did the amount of work they needed to to live, without having to pedal ten times as hard to stay ahead of inflation and taxation, there'd be far less traffic.

The Adam Smith Institute put the cost of government day in August this year. Two thirds of effort paying for governemt, one third for yourself. That's a national average. I bet it's far worse in London.

...and likely to become heavier as batteries move from lithium ion cobalt with flammable electrolyte through lithion ion phosphate to sodium ion.

I don’t like the bloke, but I doubt he cares much about the tribulations of some rural dwellers whose occasional forays into London are inconvenienced by forking out a few quid.
He is more focused on his populace, usually the poorest families, who live near major routes and suffer health issues because of it.

I imagine London ulez ito be like the one n Newcastle then, which they have ran the redirected traffic through the poorest areas whilst the sky high city houses are all safe in their little green zone to be more likely the case mick.
