Ford Ranger Chassis Issues

I was looking at buying one, for social use, not work but this chassis issue has put me off. Some vehicles are only 2 years old. I know this has been discussed on this forum, but came across this from the Ford Ranger Club UK, which  makes for interesting reading..my other option is the 4x4 Ford Edge SUV..

Bloody hell them pics 1 and 3 are awful!

 

I have a 60 plate and it's a lot better than all of those! 

 

I must say I looked at a 66 dmax the other month and that was rusty under neath.... bed almost rotten.

 

Looked at a 66 navara that wasn't bad. 

 

And under a 15 plate l200 was clean as a whistle.....

 

Shocked at the rangers but must be bad paint or corrosion protection from factory?

 

And most importantly... never buy off a farmer! Cowshit is a nightmare

I was aware of the rusting issue so I’ve had all mine undersealed (currently have 2 x 2018, 1 x 2013, 1 x2020 models). Not had a single problem, I get them

sealed every year as we do quite abit of off-road. Personally I’d fully recommend them especially if you’re towing at the legal limit, wouldn’t have any other truck.

I thought rot on cars like this was a thing of the past. Having purchased old bangers through the 80s, I was quite used to also purchasing thumping great tins or Upol filler, primer and spray paint.

Not seen rust like that since I was looking at purchasing an Alfasud..nice green cloverleaf but it was rusting in weird places...around the filler cap, windscreen wiper holes etc. Didn't bother in the end, great cars but the rust!!!

I have a car mad cousin, whose father bought a Fiat Miaforia 132 way back about 1978-1980, went like stink, but basically dissolved in the N.I. rain. Anyway he maintained that(and a whole lot like the woes of British Leyland, in that in so far as I am aware the Communists/Unions held sway in the factories) that the Fiat steel plant was in a coastal location and the coils of steel were sprayed with seawater to cool them(which I simply dont believe could be the case!), more like the coils sat on open rail cars and got a liberal coating of salt from the wind off the sea, and nobody cared.

Cos Dad bought a Regetta, with a bullet proof diesel engine, but  the bodywork needed a full respray inside of a 12month, due to rust bubbling through, but it still melted away, despite the  local respray..

I think the Soviet steel thing was never real and it was just down to the Alfa Naples factory being demotivated and pretty much like British Leyland in the mid to late 70s.

Not sure about the Fiats - the 2.0L twincam was a beast though!

Lancia....Beta...OMG, engines falling out!!!
