The bit in this that fascinates me is; whilst the face covering is supposed to stop aerosols containing virus getting into other peoples breathing space and social distancing coupled with sanitising hands to cut the risk of contagion from fomites or infecting from the air then it should apply to all diseases transmitted this way. Are we seeing a reduction in colds, flu, measles and especially STIs?

 

The other thing is has the medical science advanced sufficiently that an overweight 74 year old will have little risk of dying or is it that poor people just don't get good treatment. I say this because Peru seemed to have a severe lockdown but a high death rate.

Having small, badly ventilated houses on minute plots, crammed into badly planned housing estates like battery hen cages in a chicken shed means that staying at home and not going mad is much harder. How was a person meant to maintain a modicum of sanity when confined to a 2 up, 2 down with a postage stamp for a garden? 

 

We also really need to address the societal issues with preventable, first world comorbidities. There is almost no excuse for being seriously overweight, and the health conditions that come with it. It is unreasonable to rely on a national health service to treat the illnesses caused by your inability to stop putting food in your mouth. 

 

In short, as a society, we need to be a bit more active, eat a bit less and endevour to build better, healthier houses. Also, it would be good if we weren't such pissheads and moderated our binge drinking tendencies. And Scotland needs to discover vegetables beyond the humble spud! ?

If anyone thinks there isn’t a massive alcohol abuse problem in many of the Nordic countries they simply don’t know their social history....

Very true although this one wasn't really a drinker, her father on the other hand who was a professional jokey was a raving alcoholic. Those long dark nights need filling somehow.
