Interesting. I’ve not seen that stance repeated by the Scottish government- has anyone else?

Guidance for businesses in Scotland on social distancing, including the closure of all retailers...

Be Responsible

In this public health crisis it is vital that ALL businesses act responsibly and align fully with the social distancing measures introduced to protect the nation’s heath, well-being and economic future

As such we would advise all business premises, sites and attractions to close now unless:

  • essential to the health and welfare of the country during this crisis (as defined below); or
  • supporting (or being repurposed to support) essential services; or
  • capable of working in a way which is fully consistent with established social distancing advice; or
  • wider public health, health and safety or other considerations apply and require a facility or service to continue to operate  or a specific period of time for a safe shutdown process to be completed.

Its not but some times best kept to your self. Made my point end of subject no offence meant ?

No offence meant or taken either. It is a forum though. It would be pretty pointless if we kept our opinions to ourselves. I don’t post that often that’s true. I find myself with a lot more time on my hands currently though.

So for those that are not Scottish we can carry on... as kevin has already pointed out.

Thanks - that’s what I’m working off and why I’ve chosen to cease work. I can’t really work and guarantee I can observe the social distancing measures 100%.  I don’t know any other tree firms round here working either but I guess there may be some. Clients to a great extent have made the decision anyway for us all.

Read it again, if you're an anti social bastard they are saying you're fine to work?

For what it's worth, they were saying on the news tonight Scotland is about 2 weeks behind the rest of the UK (aka london!) with the virus

Find out about the government response to coronavirus (COVID-19) and what you need to do.

Not sure why there is such confusion over work, or not to work. Pretty simple there on the government website. There's also radio ads on the national stations saying the same thing.

It's a personal decision whether to work or not, not the law. Obviously whatever we chose we should adhere to the social distancing guidelines. In our line of work that is very easy.

We're in a 3 week partial lockdown, what if its extended another 3 weeks? Or it goes from partial to complete lockdown?

That is how I would read it.  We are still working in the office, all be it as few people as possible coming in, but it is not a case of shut down the business.  The guys that can't work without coming in are in, but shifts are also in place to further minimise contact.  If you can keep your distance from each other and clients I see no reason for you all to stop work.

I saw pure stupidity yesterday. My French friend who's a gardener, was working at the holiday home opposite my house, he saw me at my van, which is in my enclosed garden, gates locked, wandered up to talk.  I told him not to come close as my wife is still recovering from the virus, he jumped back with a look of horror on his face. I explained that we have to be totally isolated for 14 days after she was taken to hospital, can't go out for shopping or a walk around for exercise. We then discussed what a terrible thing it is. He turned round, walked across to two builders' vans working opposite,  one van had one bloke in it, the other had two , and started to have a conversation with them, almost shoulder to shoulder. I could not believe it, he is a young man with a wife and two small children, putting all his family at risk. I am allowed out for shopping this Monday and to go to the workshop who does my grinder repairs. If anyone comes within the 2 metre zone I shall announce in a loud voice that I am recovering from the plague. That should stop them. Unfortunately the French love to congregate and natter, I can't see this changing much.

What is most annoying is the prospect of loosing out on work too others who are just carrying on regardless, & from what iv'e read this lockdown may be carrying on in some form for up to 2yrs.
