Fly Tipping Remedy

Reminded me of a couple of stories.

A while ago a pensioner had school kids sitting on his wall to eat chips - he was OK with that apart frm them dropping the litter, so he had a word, and gave them a bin, litter problem solved because it was easy for them (kids still ate chips there). Point here, people will use a bin if it is easy for them, carry rubbish for 50m and they will ditch it.

Second thing, the council has team to prosecute fly tippers and they do look in bags for receipts and so on, I guess there is some truth in that story. However they normally reserve that level of investigation for serious fly tippers.

A couple of things annoy me - the take away bag thrown ut of the car wndow because that is just pure arrogance for the countryside and lazyness, and also (living 1 mil from th ecouncil recycling point) is 'proper' fly tipping - drive the car, empty the boot and drive off again.. when 2 minuteslater yuo could be putting it for recycling.

I can accept howver the we al drop rubbish witohut knowig it (you thikn its gone in the pocket but you missed - particually happens this time of year whn yuo have gloves on). I will also take a carrier bag up the lane every now and then and fill it with rubbisjh - just because someone else dropped it doesn't mean I should leave it there to look at every morning

We get carry out crap 18 miles from source too. I also pick it up so as not to have to daily view it.
I did see one perpetrator chucking it out of his car a few years ago and did an early morning drop into his garden. Trouble was there was only what he’d chucked and I don’t think his brain power would’ve computed that it was originally his.

Was working at a school and after break we watched two care takers come out and clear up bags of rubbish , I was in disbelief that the kids where allowed to do that in the first place and that any one caught or needed punishing wasn’t picking it up, but apparently the parents come in to the school complaining about human rights if there kids are on detention for dropping litter and are forced to clean it up.

That’s where it’s gone wrong Matty.

We would have been beaten for dropping litter, it’s just not something you even thought about doing.

Sounds draconian these days but it's true, if my old woman saw me drop litter I'd have got a clout round the lug hole, old man was the same.

I think I have posted before about finding a pile of pornozines right under a sign in a local layby which said "Strictly no Dumping, Maximum fine £20,000.  Of course I felt that it was my duty to inspect them and to my surprise in the middle of the pile (at least a dozen) was a bit of paper with a receipt.   Called out the local council waste officer and he said he would deal with it but he had to be cautious as people can plant receipts in rubbish like this to embarrass their enemies.

However I was pleasantly surprised to see a local man being fined £200 a couple of months later in the paper.  However it did not describe the nature of the rubbish disappointingly.

My wife decided to take a bin liner and pick the rubbish up on our lane and found a £10 note in one carrier bag and yesterday I was angry to see a builders bag had been dumped in the lane. I expected the usual builders waste of empty sealant cartridges and broken concrete.

However on inspection it was a quarter full of cut and split firewood, looks like thorn, a bit damp but seasoned and will dry quickly in the shed.   So there can be good Karma around for those prepared to pick up waste!

She was just making sure you was a good egg. The old man sounds as if he was a bit hard boiled in his ways so not to get you fried and scrambled in your head they poached on you dropping litter ? ?

I've always said that all junk food, energy drinks, alcopops and tinned lager should have irreversible sterilising agents added to them by law.

The gene pool would become self-cleansing, the population would drop and junk food outlets and their stench would just disappear.

Litter is a big bug bear of mine. Why we dont have the rule here they have in the states, £1000 fine fro dropping litter. Prisoners come out in a chain gang to clear up major roads etc.

I regularly pick up litter round here sometimes on my own, sometimes in organised groups. Take the kids to the park, I take a litter picker and a bag.

My daughter, aged 8, helping on an organised litter pick
