Lad who freelances for us said he turned up on site last week with a 20l can of mixed fuel and noticed the guy he was working for filling up his cans with it at the end of the day ... apparently if you charge more for your own fuel as a freelancer at the end of the day it belongs to who your working for!

That's more than a bit cheeky.  I hope he pays well.

misread that at first, thinking he'd just filled a chainsaw up with it, but no..  he's nicking whats left at days end for himself seeing as he thinks he's paid for it..

as bad as some of these knobs up here, can I just borrow a bit of petrol..   give em a can tell em be sparse with it as I need it myself and get a petrol can back with just over a cupful left..  and not a bit shame on their face or owt...

These days they get the do what I do. what do you mean!.. go and fkn buy some...

To be fair, in my opinion a freelancer should supply their own fuel.

In this instance I chose to use their fuel so didn't really feel I could ask for a replacement.

At the end of my day it was 100% my fault for putting any amount of trust in a couple of people I knew to be complete numptys

why do you think that should be?

On the face of it I've no issue, for obvious reasons. however it's one moor thing to load in and out of the truck each day. I've enough off a job hauling a climbing kit, 3 saws, tool box, helmet and lunch bag (with first aid kit).

It would definitely mean a second trip.

Because in my case I always set my rates at the higher end of the scale, and in that case I think I should be providing everything.  Fuel is pennies, some days won’t use any if a small pruning job.

for the guys who are charging a low rate, yeah maybe they shouldn’t need to supply their own fuel

You should be able to get that lot in a rucksack and a box on a sack barrow (maybe minus one or two of the saws). I've posted a picture of my setup on here before. Two saws, fuel, oil, axes and wedges, toolbox, climbing kit and ancillaries like lunch and water. Into and out of a garden in one.

Like I said, on the face of it I've no issue. It's not expensive and I'd be happier using my mix as I use the posh 2 stroke oil.

I remember seeing that. Could you post it again?

Not sure if this is the same one but shows it well. The saws are small (170 and 020) and only go in one way. I’m only using this box because it was free. I’d buy another (bigger) one like I use for my rigging/other stuff if buying for purpose. That has its own wheels. For several saws, I’ve long thought a wheelie bin would make a good umbrella basket saw caddy for up to 25 inch ish bars.
