  2. I will admit its more that I do not want to employ anyone, I dont have the experience to become an arb business yet. I will do small jobs that are mostly within my abilities, mostly hedge trimming and small tree pruning. If it turns out to be beyond my ability I will get an experienced arb friend down, which as it turns out, I am doing today. Its about 60" where I wanted to do the felling cut of the pole and having a 28" bar, thought I'd trim the side a little as theres bad access that side, garage and rubbish. Found it to be hollow where I wanted my hinge to be. New plan is to chog it down from rope/ladder/spikes.
  3. I have a small Christmas tree plantation. Norway, nordman and some more interesting ones I can't resist planting alongside them that no-one ever chooses! I try to use as few chemicals as possible which means I end up doing a LOT of strimming. I have used kerb a bit soon after establishment, which works. And I've also tried chickens, without much success. (You know how every chicken run you've ever seen is bare mud at the base. That's what I was hoping for, but instead the sward of grass and weeds is pretty much as thick as ever - I think i need 50+ chickens rather than the 7 I currently have.) Anyway, some questions: Does anyone know if Kerb flo / granules is poisonous to chickens? Or to us if we eat their eggs? Can i plant a seedling into ground that has been sprayed with kerbflow earlier in the winter? Any top tips for weed control in (small) christmas tree exclosures? Thanks ! C
  4. Perhaps. Even though they are trained, it's still quite rare for a copper to fatally shoot someone in the UK: England and Wales fatal police shootings 2024| Statista WWW.STATISTA.COM In 2023/24, the police in England and Wales fatally shot two people, compared with three in the previous reporting year, and six in 2016/17.

  9. I work for a hire company, we have run 860i's for the last 3 years or so. Not had any of the above issues. Did have some dashboard water ingress issues, but I think they were caused by over zealous wash bay lads pressure washing the dashboard at close range. The new 635's we have had some issues with fan belts snapping. I personally really rate the avants for what they are, yes the plastics are brittle but they seriously punch above their weight.
  10. You can't ring for an appointment any more at our surgery . It all has to be done on line now . People kicked against it initially but it seems to be working smoothly now .
  11. It was a bizarre period, insects that were thought to be harmless and friendly turned against us in a Hitchcockian manner. The summer was unprecedented, people getting water from standpipes. John Noakes taking a shower in his swimming trunks on Blue Peter to illustrate how more economical it was compared to a bath. It had an End of Days feel to it.

  13. Stihl released the 500i six years ago. They're the bollocks. Why aren't more saws injected by now?
  14. Did you rate it as a grinder though Josh? Pretty sure that’s the one Ross White had, and thought it was mentally good, possibly too good for the size/weight. Like an animal 8” chipper that weighed 400kg.
  15. @Anno who's this then, from a few year back.
  16. I got let down last minute and am looking for someone with up to date (passed or refreshed within last 5 years) felling certificate (small trees is enough) and valid 1st aid+f. Job is in Cumbria, Duddon Valley starting on Monday 6th of October for 2 weeks. It's felling and processing Larch trees for future milling and peeling on site. Message me for details. Thanks Peter

  19. They're pretty simple machines. Mine jammed up the other day when a fork went through it but the overrun clutch on the PTO shaft saved the day. The product is fiddly to burn but you can really fill a stove up and it goes for a long time. It gets choked up on brash but it's a decent way of reducing bulk if you don't have a chipper

  22. Tried a pair of these on in store felt pretty good. Can anyone vouch for their long term comfort, any good with spikes? Any good for hiking as well- I know they’re stiff and a bit heavy Cheers
  23. A nice bag of ArbSurplus rope ends, most appear to be around 5m. Pair of saw lanyards, decent quality, made in UK.
  24. Cheers for them answers. I hadn't thought about roadsise to be honest Mark, I might get away with that in spring when tree work's quiet. Thanks for the tip about Chainsaw Bars UK too, I get most of my milling kit that way but since Brexit I pay big import duties on it. He's got a load of Manpa stuff too I've seen which might be useful. I would probably be able to justify the expense if I knew I could sell some work off the back of it. Carving more would be a good start. Cheers again for your help, I probably will give you a shout Mark next time I'm over visiting.
