It's good but I'd not say I was a massive fan. I read the books when I was younger and heard various bits of it on the radio probably. Random bits like the 42 just stick in my mind, another quirk of the human memory. I'll re-read it one day. And Lord of the Rings. They'll be a refreshing dose of human creativity in a wasteland of AI garbage in a few years.

It might have been one of those I found fifteen years ago on a golf range. Massive thing. Size of a small bird. Made a very particular noise. Had never seen anything like it before. I killed it without hesitation. New and different things shouldn't be tolerated.

Cost of planting young trees etc
Amarus replied to Midpit's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
Anywhere between 30p to £1.5/tree depending on site conditions, planting design and protection installed (i.e. 30p for neat conifer and £1.5 is installing 1.8m tree shelters on top of planting). Mulch mats are a waste of time and material to be honest, not to mention the impact on maintenance. Don't bother. Labour cost is probably around 70p-£1 depending on material, number of pegs etc.- 1 reply

Every time a householder kills himself doing tree work a hundred housewives read about it and stop their husbands with the words “no you are not! We’ll get a pro in and pay him whatever it costs” Its an ill wind…..etc.

There are people on here with way more knowledge than me about such matters, but from those pictures, I would have been firing up a saw immediately. They're some of the ugliest specimens I have seen, and at that size, I wouldn't have any qualms about removing them. When I worked for a builder friend, the building control officer in one area was absolutely petrified of Leylandii. If he saw one anywhere near, the footings had to be bigger/deeper. Once upon a time, a neighbour rang and asked me to fell the oak tree near his mother's house, as it had been deemed responsible for cracking/subsidence. I refused, and told him that the oak tree wasn't the culprit. He replied that he knew it was the big Willow, I knew it was the willow, but the insurance man said it was the oak, and it needed to be felled for the payout.

So add yourself to the tip sites, that is a good start if you haven't already. A couple of pointers: Great, yes am sure we can all tip there.. if we know where here is... We could of course give you a call... no we can't, email instead? err, cannot do that either.... But first off register as tip site. Note that most established firms will have somewhere to get rid of their waste sorted, most likely those that use tip sites are away from their home area and want somewhere local to tip to save an hour or 2 round trip.. so you won't get a call every week. Be flexible with what you can take. Split and dried logs tipped are never going to happen but 25kg lumps of wood are more likely if you can cut, split and dry them yourself (assuming this is for firewood)

Yup I do that too. I use alkalyte aswell for the infrequently used bits of kit. So I calculate the amount to take it from 50:1 to 40:1. However I'm moving back to Apsen because the cans pour better than motomix and I'm too tight to buy their special funnel.
