As a distraction, a good news story, NASA are ending a mission to the space station early due to a "medical incident" - first time in 25 years. I reckon having 25 years without a medical issue in space is good news. Do the batteries have temperature sensors in them that stop them working when too cold as well as too hot? Just thinking of the weather we've had this last week -
While at risk of making this thread the Sailor thread, I nevertheless feel compelled to report the great day he’s had. A luxury breakfast of half a hare he was very interested in when I hung it up last night, served on a bed of English snow with a hint of power steering fluid. Then beating where he was firstly funny as fhck, causing a pair of roe to career straight through my mate’s ride, twice, on two separate drives. Literally brushed his leg the first time and he had to take evasive manoeuvres to avoid one in the lap the second time. Then came off the chases at distance. And a hare chase. Didn’t lose him out of the drives. Then just did some perfectly credible gundog things, despite realistically not being a gundog. Flushed loads, picked up a really awkward one without chewing the back off it and worked a wood edge at distance, waiting, going ahead, coming back, all while I was fifty yards out with a stop flag. Couldn’t believe it. And now just lying round, just amusing me by ruining my carpet and looking tired. Success upon success. Best dog I’ve ever owned.

Apple. It was much bigger, banging into the conservatory, loads of the apples unpickably high and up the middle etc. Read the various orchard threads on here and conferred with an enthusiastic contributor to them. Brought it back in to a working shape in something like five prunes over three years. Managed to not scare up shitloads of regrowth by doing it piecemeal, one big one per zone and let it settle sort of thing. Did a bit of bending and wedging/tying to pull branches into empty spots. All the tricks I learned from here. What a useful website. Anyway. I’ve called it reinstated to working form and told the guy to get a silky and maintain it himself from now on. He’s pleased. I’m pleased. There are a couple of branches that offend me now I look at the picture. Can only assume there was a good reason to leave them on. You had to be there, man.

We require a climbing Arborist for a temporary position at Exe Tree care, based in Exeter. The likely period is 2-3months, up to 5 days per week. The reasons are that two members of staff have become ill over an extended period. Self employed preferred. Own PPE required. Own climbing equipment preferred, but can be provided if necessary.

I’m a bit confused with the old Class 1/2/3 to new C / C+E switch and all the “grandfather rights” stuff. For anyone who had an older licence (pre-1997) did your trailer/weight entitlements carry over correctly, or did DVLA downgrade anything without you noticing? And if they did were you able to challenge it and get it fixed? As DVLA keeps modernising rules (like the recent diabetes/CGM update for Group 2), I’m curious how reliable the system is for “old rights” today.

Yeah, that’s the idea really - plenty of contingency fund and eyes wide open. The thing is with older fords/trucks is it’s all there to see, no part on part on part everything is accessible and simple. Similar with the FJ, these trucks are old so of course unless they’ve been factory restored are going to have issues who buys a 40yr old truck and thinks it’s going to be a modern Volvo. Plan is either to keep it forever and touch myself when I look at it or enjoy it for however long and sell on as I’ll only put a few hundred miles on it a year.

Kind of true still, if it is too long you forget points or your eyes glaze over towards the end of reading it. If I get one that is too long then my first assumption is whoever wrote it just copied and pasted from previous examples, cover everything, without ever looking at the site or site conditions. My favourite example is specifying a hard hat to walk into a green field months before any plant is considered to start work there. Copy and paste, makes me wonder if the rest of the risk assessment is up to the job.
