  5. Got some mini accessory biners, red 8kn are from amazon, £11 for 5. Compared to a full size. HB had 14% off at weekend. Last autumn another climber cut 11m off my first rope being careless, down to 26m. A bit too short, so thought I'd replace it. Other than being cut, its lasted well, I like the rope so got the same, Liros Reef. I'll splice the ends myself. Also got this log peeler device. I've had some customers ask me about carving big logs/high stumps and this should make quick work of it.. However I dont like the design, I'll be modifying tbe shaft/cutter holder before it gets attached to a saw.. I do not like relying on spring washers which will also suck all the power, rapidly overheat and destroy the bearings the way it was assembled.. Loosely assembled box of parts!
  6. If you have a supply of pallets can you use stringers to give corner supports to a mesh frame, a 1m pallet will give just under 1m3 capacity. Fix 3 sides of the mesh and the 4th side bolt onto the 2 adjacent supports, come time to empty unbolt it and empty. Get it right you should be able to make them stackable like this too.
  7. Yes quite a lot of variables. Done by me they fell out most of it leaving a few pleachers and then bank it up. Done with machines they don't half gip on!
  8. Definitely, I don't think oak sapwood is good for anything other than firewood.

  11. Thank you all so much. Some useful knowledge and information in those thoughtful replies. I was watching closely for replies during the first couple of days, then I got a little distracted by the blessing of minding grandchildren. Our daughter has also announced that they intend to build right beside us, which is a source of much joy for us. But unfortunately much as the son in law and I ogle traditional Oak framed buildings, we both allow in our persistently wind driven wet Atlantic climate, that such a building technique is not viable. The clue would perhaps lie in the complete absence of any oak framed buildings of any age, here in N Ireland, quite unlike swathes of England. Cheers, Marcus Btw. Am I correct in thinking that the framing needs to be the heartwood, and that any exposed sapwood will rapidly rot. I remember oak sleepers on a project some years ago, and the difference in behavouir wrt weathering between the heartwood and the sapwood was startling.

  17. So as far as I can tell from your response: Marks past alcoholism is not "making the news today" You have not mentioned why it is pertinent to the conversation You haven't added a reason to bring to the conversation again The only conclusion I can find is that I was correct, and you are just attacking the man for his past problems and for no reason. So I will reiterate again to the small minded insignificant man that you are. Mental health issues are not a thing to belittle, to make fun of, to use as a basis for attacks and insults, regardless who the target is. Every time you do so persuades others who have problems and issues to think again about opening up, getting it out in the open, seeking help because they 'know' the reaction they will receive. They've seen you and your reaction. If you are the typical response then the next time we will be talking about them is at the grave side. So stop being an arse, accept past problems for that, and realise actually your words here are doing more harm than good. For anyone else following jonsonds words here who might be struggling, I wouldn't be mentioning any issues on this website, he stalks it looking for 'ammunition', but there is plenty of help out there if you need to talk... and they will listen (unlike this sites arse), listen even if you think your issues are insignificant, they arn't. Don't leave it too late.
  18. Morning stalker, good of you to start the day off with a discussion on Marks mental illness. There’s a few wise words from the internet on the topic, not mine but very much applicable. I might add that’s AA’s view on this too. Mark is not an alcoholic SP/TA. Even the dumbest know, if you're an alcoholic you just don't drink as it's not about controlling that monkey it's about keeping it caged. You don't let a smack head have a little cocaine just to show he's in control
  19. So let's make up an imaginary idea. Let's play imagining that you are telling the truth and not lying, that bringing up Marks past mental health conditions is not an attack on him. Why did you mention it? It wasn't pertinent to the conversation on here, it was well in the past and certainly not 'making the news today', is there a reason for bringing it up to the conversation again? [now in reality I am not expecting you to be able to form a reasoned and rational response, anticipating your usual insults thrown out like a baby in throwing toys out of a pram when it doesn't get its own way, but I'm willing to give your answer a read] However You constantly make fun of, weaponise, attack because of past problems. The focus of your current abuse is Mark, but it could be any member who dares to open up that could be the target of your venom. It might be worth reiterating that male mental health is a silent killer, 'man up', 'say nothing' attitude which needs to change and then arses like you come along to poke fun of and to throw insults out at those who do open up. Makes everyone else clam up until you find them at the end of the rope and the repeated comment around the grave "if only they had told someone". Well, if the response they get is you is there any surprise that men don't?"
  20. The other thing about a loose ring is when it comes to emptying you can hopefully lift the ring away to get at the last layer, rather than having to reach right down or climb inside like an IBC.

  23. So I'd say £40/m seems maybe a bit on the high side to me, BUT we don't use binders here in Cheshire . Ok, so here's my two'penerth likely starting rate at £15/m, plus EXTRA for the following : Separating out any old fencing wire, or reinstating same etc If overstood/taller than say, 4m. If pleachers over 6'' diameter If binders needed If Chipping up or habitat piling of brash needed If it's got lots of Dog-rose, Blackthorn -or been layed in the last decade. Difficult access ? Roadside/ TM issues ? Gapping up, obviously extra too. If it's a juicy proposition hedge, a bit like in Alex's photo, then I might turn a blind eye to the above! 🤗
  24. Had enough of the rain so headed off out of it, 24 degrees and really rather pleasant, the jobs will still be there when I return.
  25. SNP rotten to the core, literally ignoring all the established legal norms and protocols. All those years taking money from the gullible fools who believed the propaganda they pumped out. Strange that one of the sites most politically active members, an SNP supporter is silent on the utter corruption at the heart of the Scottish government.
  26. Had similar many times work at schools, that's one reason I don't work at them anymore.
  27. Morning all, Dry here. Off the the NEC looking at camper vans/motorhomes. Got to yesterday’s job pruning sycamore next to school building. Lack of communication in school office had resulted scaffolding under part of the tree and roofers working on it. Managed to get the job done, but had to sit around waiting.
