If you’re advertising your business above your premises in this industry on a busy road, it’s a question of when not if you get raided. I can’t imagine you’d bring in enough work to counter the cost/downtime of having all your stuff nicked! If I was you I’d concentrate on building your business until you require the space for kit/aid expansion.

Thank you AB. I can see you've got some venerable old pollards there. Very nice. This one is particularly eye catching - I can't offer any advice on how best to bring them back into service I'm afraid. No experience. I'd guess it would have to be a gradual process though, to minimise shock.

As much as I would love the idea of an 8 inch machine the 6 inch machine can get more places, certainly I wouldn't get around the foot paths and nadgery gardens with an 8 inch. Secondly the additional weight trying to drag it up the steepest A road in the UK with my decrepit transit would be dead in the water before we left the yard.

They where supposed to come back on the market when I spoke to arbortec over a year ago , I really liked them as a boot but the only saw boot now remotely similar are the pfanner juchten or Tyrol and I’d still prefer the fellhunters… why anyone can’t make a decent upland walking chainsaw boot considering the terrain of woodland and felling sites and all they seem to do is churn out multi coloured clown shoes is beyond me.

That can be a real winner. They get a cheaper price, you avoid the drag from hell.

I run a Forst TR6, with the older 35hp diesel, and a Jensen A540 turntable with the 37.5hp diesel. Neither of these have ever blocked the chute up, even with wet conifer. I do keep on top of the blades and anvils. Sure, there have been times where something gets stuck under the top roller seat, but often this can be encouraged to drop out by feeding a max diameter log through. Failing that, spanners out time. While I agree that eight inch capacity gives more throughput, I would miss the option on the Forst to take the hopper off, tracks in, and get through a 2ft6 gate. There have been several occasions where domestic customers have been happy to have there large tree chipped and left in the rear garden, saving us a big drag. Horses for course I guess.

Or just pay them for a billboard?.

Maybe re-phrase my question. I was once roadside on a busy 'B' road just out of town. Large signs and bright landscaping caught clients eyes. I felt it really helped raise the businesses profile, credibility even and bring in alot of work. That was the past. Since I restarted in 2018, I've been near invisible except for Google. Tucked away on a housing estate, low profile so not to upset the neighbours. My turnover long since hit a ceiling that seems strangely difficult to break through. So, I am reaching out to ask if others have moved their businesses to a more public location and found turnover (profit hopefully) increased as a result of the exposure despite extra costs in rent. If you need through put go up to a 8 inch machine, Conifer will block any chipper up if chipper is blunt and revs drop a little, slack drive belts will cause it as well. Demo all machines and then choose.

What I would like to know, has anyone moved to a prominently situated premises and found it led to an upsurge in trade ? I don't actually need the extra room but I'd like to consolidate what little equipment I have as it is spread between three sites, being a farm, lockups and home.

I forgot mention as a "note": If I add a piece of wood "bigger than usual" when the stove is almost hot enough(hand as a thermometer) , one can overheat the stove with dry oak!!! Especially if it's a small metal stove! Ceramic tile stoves are big enough to soak up excess heat even if coal is used, but even these stoves(or 1-2 tons masonry stoves used in Russia) can overheat with dry hard type wood or high power coal if added too much when the stove is close to its heat absorbing capacity! Because it burns slower than other species of hardwood its deceiving for "amateurs"! Best to add smaller pieces of wood when using oak until you know what's what... I too got deceived by coal briquettes and overheated the other ceramic tile stove wich is twice as big as this one in video! Wood briquettes are nicer ,not so vicious as coal briquettes. But dry oak can cause problems if your stove is small and you added too much at once! I've yet to try petroleum coke 🙄😁 One day ,I will 😎

Well after keeping a 150ftr going i am reasonably happy with timberwolf including the availability of parts.

I had a gm220 with the 55hp engine. it did block up with conny but I reckon the terrible state of the anvil was responsable. I’d go for the TW over a Forst any day

yup, it's a blaze, too hot to keep the door open for too long . hand or face ,it's too much heat for human skin 😁 It burns quite different from birch , less white-yellow big flames almost wanting to escape the stove... More subtle civilized flame with oak. And it burns longer than any wood I used so far. I see now why it's so appreciated this firewood oak "thing" 🙄 But the seasoning time (at least 2 years) is a problem if you're in a "hurry".
