  4. ah yeah, but without money you can't buy health - health needs paying for with hard currency. Good food and good medical care all cost money. Money is the most important thing. The Beatles sang 'money can't buy me love', but love can't exist inside a dead body and it's money that keeps the body alive
  5. This 40 year old cedar was planted by the current resident. I have never seen anything like this before. On the left side of the photos the root buttress sounds a bit soft/hollow but otherwise the trunk base sounds pretty solid when knocked with nylon head hammer. The fact the tree has a fair lean towards a neighbouring house, and the dubious buttress is the most critical to counter the lean, the owner want the tree down. I think this is the right decision. The crown is not showing any obvious signs of distress/needle loss. Anyone any thoughts on the diagnosis?

  9. Feckwhit, a serious topic and you are lowering it all to have a personal dig. Mens health is important, it is often ignored "will just carry on, nothing wrong" attitude until you end up in a hospital bed... which is the point the OP was making. If you are unable to 'read the room' and understand then do not comment.
  10. Which is my point, apart from having an accident, your health should never get to a point where you need to go to A&E, should be getting things checked out well before then. Got to look after your health.
  11. They're pretty simple machines. Mine jammed up the other day when a fork went through it but the overrun clutch on the PTO shaft saved the day. The product is fiddly to burn but you can really fill a stove up and it goes for a long time. It gets choked up on brash but it's a decent way of reducing bulk if you don't have a chipper
  12. Had a great vat of curry for old folk and sister last night, good catch up and question old folk on things of the past but Mum's dementia mean she can be pretty rude about stuff from the past - "his father was a dirty old groper, always grabbing girls arses and he was a noise in the Weslean Chapel too!"....... Going to aTaunton for something to do and possibly another walk along Charmouth later. Found a huge seam of Copralites along the beach - 95 million year old Dino pooh! Be good at work and get ready for the storm! Art, Hitch, Oak.

  18. Took the words right from my keyboard. Kram, on a serious note. The course will teach you something but it is of course a paper exercise for the employers etc. You will get as much out of it as you can if you go in there open minded and don’t try and tell the instructor he is doing it wrong or you know a better way to do it. There are many ways to skin a cat as the saying goes. But if your on a cat skinning course then listen to what the instructor is trying to tell you.

  22. The boys school is on strike today so he joining me in the woods to collect some firewood. It’s about time I taught him how to cleave Sweetchestnut, so we will knock up a bit of post and rail whilst we are there, a lovely sunny morning.
  23. This is my story with the Avant 860i & dealing with Avant as a a company. I Purchased a new Avant 860i machine from ASCO in Tyler Tx 1.5 months ago. Soon as I took delivery of the machine I took it to a job & it immediately started chewing up hydraulic hoses near their proprietary grapple. So I loaded it up & took it back to the dealership to find that the edges on the grapple were so sharp they were cutting anything in site. I get the machine back from the shop grinding them down & take it to a job & the machine immediately starts shears off the bolts that hold the bracket for the other hydraulic hoses, which causes the bracket to gouge the tire & a whole myriad of other issues once that bracket is displaced. So I take it back into the shop where they replace the bolts. Back to the job I go & it immediately shears off the even harder bolts twice more. So back to the shop I go.. Then the same process repeats itself. So I get ahold of Bill at Avant in Illinois at the behest of the local tech that wants to weld the bracket to the back of the boom head. Then the shop calls me & says they done it but it doesn’t fix the issue as it needs to be redesigned by Avant to move the entire hydraulic coupler system to a new location otherwise further destruction will occur. So I reach back out to Bill who then admits there is a known design flaw in existing machines that’s being fixed in the new machines by moving the whole hydraulic system to a new location & so forth.. At this juncture I ask them to stop work on the unit & request a sit down & with ASCO & Avant. Since the machine has spent its entire lifetime up until this point in the shop I simply asked that Avant stand behind their product & take it back & cancel the contract between us. To which the sales manager refuses & says I’m sorry we don’t do that & simply offers a longer warranty, as if I want even longer to be plagued by their brand new machine that has oddles of issues. The meeting was short & I plan on litigating at this juncture because that’s my only option it would seem is to now have to prove what a joke the machine is I guess once that occurs I’ll have that information to share on what a complete lemon of unfinished poorly designed junk they produce is but also the company Avant itself does not stand behind the product in any way shape or form. I would never do business with them going forward & would suggest anyone looking at a piece of Avant equipment look elsewhere to a company that has worked out their design properly. I’ve been in business many years & bought used & sold tons of equipment & I’ve never seen anything like what I’ve seen with Avant. Buyer Beware!
