One day a bus driver went to the bus garage started his bus and drove off along the route. No problem for the first few stops, a few people got on, a few got off and things went generally well. At the next stop, however,a big hulk of a guy got on. Six feet height, built like a wrestler, arms hanging down to the ground. He glared at the driver and said, “ Big John doesn't have to pay! The driver was five feet three,thin, and basically meek. Naturally,he didn't argue with Big John, but he wasn't happy about it. The next day the same thing happened. Big John got on again, made a show of refusing to pay, and sat down. And the next day, and the one after that.. This went on and the driver started losing sleep over the way Big John was taking advantage of him. Finally he could stand it no longer. He signed up for body building course, karate, judo and all that stuff. By the end of the summer,he had become quite strong and the big thing is that he felt really good about himself. So on the next Monday when Big John once again got on the bus and said, “Big John doesn't pay!” The driver stood up, glared back at the passenger and screamed, “And why not?” With a surprised look on his face Big John replied, “ Big John has a bus pass."

Friend of mine used it in his house as a central pillar. Before that I thought it was rubbish timber. Bit sparky in an open fire, I remember it being used for fire wood as a kid. I reckon it’s the most underrated timber we have due to being planted as hedges in suburban gardens. How is it reproduced if it’s sterile?

What is the price of a Christmas tree these days? I swopped a NS yesterday for 2kg of pasture fed pork. He’s happy and I am happy. City prices are a bit mad over here in the green isle, Cork city €80 or approx £70. So any ideas on what is a fair price for a tree? I will have to drag them at least 100m to get them out to a road, so bear that in mind too. Just to clarify these are the tops of first thinnings they are not manicured nordman or Corsican pines.

Farmer here, wouldn’t be using a chainsaw every day of the week but when I do the helmet is on and safety boots. Have the trousers ordered but I don’t think I will wear them every time I use a chainsaw. I bought a battery powered chainsaw and it just doesn’t feel like I am using a chainsaw at all. I think that’s a bigger danger, it is quiet so I don’t need ear protection so the helmet isn’t worn as much as it should be. As more of our gear is becoming battery powered we need to watch out for our safety and not become complacent. A bit like pedestrians and electric cars I suppose.

Carton, sorry predictive text and no reading glasses not a good combination. Carbon was on my mind though, all that fuel being burned by a ship moving rubbish from one side of the planet to the other so we can feel good about recycling our plastic. Rant over.

Has the person used one before? Reason I ask is that the small one might be easier to use, if they have experience get the longer one.

3 litre plastic milk carbon. It saves the recyclers shipping them to Japan where they use it as fuel.

First saw was a jonsered 630 super II that I still use, first gf became a granny at 36, think I dodged a bullet there, we still keep in touch on fb though 😎other shelf queen is a jonsered 625 bought as a fixer upper but hasn’t been fixed up yet. Realistically it will probably be a parts donor for the 630.

Early days yet, but I think the mitsu is harder on diesel too. Mine is a swb, will have to wait until next summer to get underneath it and get busy with the paint.

Got 23 years out of a land cruiser before the chassis rusted out. Everything else is mechanically perfect. While painting it last year I noticed rust bubbles on the sills, started probing a bit, they’re rotten as well. So I bought a 2010 pajero as a replacement, plan is to weld the chassis and replace the sills on the land cruiser as it’s only 4 years away from vintage. Doing it myself in my spare time.

Was thinking the same thing, might be in some of the round slurry stores on the Google image. You may not hear it when leaves are on the trees, or they don’t use it when cows are out.

It’s like as if they have turned the corner or something. They probably feel better in themselves when they are fully committed to killing themselves. Human brain is hard to understand. Eggs don’t beat yourself up about it (terrible pun) but if your mate pulls through this time and gets another chance to kill himself he probably will unless he gets a lot of counselling. Take care of yourself too at this time, talking here is good but not the same as a good one to one with a professional. I know I probably could have written this a lot better, it’s a tough subject.

It already is like Cuba here in rural Ireland. Local welder has a list of people waiting to get 4wd chassis welded, no salt on the roads in Cuba!

Thanks for the replies so far. I think the bark eating is due to phosphorus deficiency. My brother kept a few horses on another part of the farm and they destroyed ash and holly trees. I will have a look at the small print in the felling licence and hopefully try it in about a month.

I'm a farmer with a small piece of forestry (12 acres approx). My trees are coming up on 20 years old and I have just got a felling licence to start thinning. I have a good bit of inspection paths cut already and I've noticed a bit of small ivy plants. I'm thinking of putting 4 or 5 young cattle about 250-300kg live weight into the forestry to control the ivy and graze off long grass in clear areas. But will they damage the tree roots or eat bark? It's mostly Sitka and Norway spruce with some Alder. Has anybody else tried this?

Ya have heard it happens to other brands too. Expensive oz work boots.

Tops and light branches are chipped. Logs go for firewood, chips are used to bed cattle in sheds, we put straw on top. Then it’s composted and spread on farmland.
