Potentially we need to start a pictures of hedgehogs thread.

Very nice. This week is the first week it hasn't rained where we are. No mower would have been able to get onto any lawn around here since end of September, the wettest feb in over 100 years mud everywhere. So you must be somewhere with really good drainage and much better weather. Nice lawn by the way.

That must of been weeks of work though. Pretty dedicated I would say.

Good to know. Most years there are little chicks left over after the mothers have been scared off by the crows and foxes, never really known what to do with them. If I can help them this year then that will be good. I think out of 34 on the pond last year, 2 made it to full grown, the rest got nicked by the crows mainly and the bigger birds or otherwise the mothers run off or get eaten (maybe) and leave a few behind. Pretty tough life out there.

On the other hand though badgers are regularly laying by the road side. I realise this thread has moved a little off topic. I will get some photos of my recently mowed lawns in response.

Yeah nice. There are a few threesomes on the pond and a couple of pairs here. A pair of Egyptians turned up on Saturday and have hung about for feeding which is pleasant. Now its the waiting game to see who has success with chicks. Then its the defense from the crows..... Anywhoo, hopefully there are more than less by the end of the season.

Well on the subject of hedgehogs, I am glad you brought that up. Good for you though on sorting that out. I have worked on the same Estate for over 20 years in the middle of the countryside and have never once seen a hedgehog here. The Widlife Trust assure us that there is no need to re-introduce as they are on the come back. There is an idea that badgers will eat them all and we have badgers, but I can't see how that makes any sense because badgers and hedgehogs have been in England for a good few thousands years co-existing I would have thought.

Yep for sure. Even the birds seem happier now that less green house gases are being pumped out all over the place. For a short while anyway. But yeah its definitely time to lift the tone of things. All this doom and gloom is a bit much. Mother's day to day as well.......

With the various legal things coming out about the use of round-up, we went to various things including the flamewand, on a 60 acre estate though, it would take a looooong time with the flame wand and a lot of gas. So we have tried the salt and vinegar routine and a few other things mainly just on pathways and hard surfaces. But I can imagine things are better without the weed killer being used.

Yep loads of bees, bumbles, flies of all sorts and first signs of peacock and other butterflies today. Spring in all fairness is now on its way......

Found a colony of toads and frogs in the pond. Loads of toad spawn and about 5 lots of frog spawn. Good to know the difference, helps with the count of how many mating pairs their might be. Sorry about all the reflection, couldn't get too zoomed in but you get the idea.....

Thanks Ben. okay got those books. There are a lot of different fruiting bodies (fungi). I am quite interested in the mycorhizal side as well. Was thinking of buying the mycorhizal planet book which looks quite interesting. -
