  1. Lovely looking dawg. What bar and chain were you using on that?
  2. Yew, but the cones I would say are from a different tree.
  3. I see what you did there! "remarkably well", the thread is "Meetings with Remarkable Trees" hee hee, very good. LOL!
  4. ooh feisty ones! I remember as a kid picking bark off a dead tree only to then see what seemed like a sudden swarm of flies above. It was only until I got stung all over, I realised it was wasps. One of them landed in my hair, a friend tried to get it off, it stung me 3 times on the head. Not sure if I ever recovered from that. LOL!
  5. Very nice. Saying that I saw a Kestrel this morning flying overhead having just come out of a hole in a tree, probably nesting I would guess. I am sure we have more round here, but most of the time its the buzzards that are seen or the odd kite. Great birds.
  6. Sounds good. Might be some hives about, I think worker bees will travel something like up to 2 miles a day or something crazy. Things are hotting up with all this Spring sunshine.
  7. Ouch. Was it bad weather and they were not feeling it? Or summat else?
  8. Yep tight boots over the bee suit is my current get up, seems to work well. They are pretty fascinating thats for sure.
  9. Trials and tribulations. I had a good read of a couple of bee books which was good help to start with. Have yet to do any real management at all with them. Will see this coming summer. Yes same here, they are out and about now with the better weather.
  10. Do we learn from our mistakes? (potentially a good title for a new thread)
  11. Its been quite quiet round here on the Kestrel front, I am wondering if they are all mating at the moment. A fair few buzzards about though. Beautiful birds.
  12. very nice. I managed to safely get a swarm of bees into a nuc and then a hive last May and they have been happily going about their business since then. A friend bought a second colony for me in a nuc, with the lockdown the farm are having a few issues with getting them out but expected by 17 April so I will be up and running with a second hive this summer. Have yet to get into taking any honey, might just leave them bee... ha ha, sorry bad joke.
  13. Okay so you say small wild bees? Are you talking bumble? Honey or a host of others? These details are important to know. ?
  14. Looks like you got a good size garden by the looks of them photos. Honey bees? What hive have you got then?
  15. Yes looks like Pleurotus ostreatus. Grey oyster. Did you get any pictures of the stem or undersides? Always best to see the stem, although it looks like a bracket. It also looks like there is a hole in the tree where the stems of the mushrooms are. That is my guess as others have said.
  16. Yes indeedy! Have ordered a better lens for my camera to hopefully be able to get some better shots of all this wildlife. Its coming from Japan.
  17. Lots of gold finch about this morning. Lovely colours on em.
  18. Pretty hardy from New Zealand maybe other places too. We have a few around the estate I work at. Really good for cutting back when needed and strong regrowth. Though when cutting in direct sunlight in summer it seems to get a little scorched on the newer leaves.
