  1. Interesting concept. Yes how can you age a fungal bracket.. But also that is just the fruiting body. The internal fungi and breakdown could well have been going on a lot longer inside the tree. How long does the wood take to breakdown and does it depend on white or brown rot. Lignin or cellulose removal. Quite a thing to behold.
  2. Interesting lumpy bracket potentially then. Will keep an eye out. Thanks David.
  3. I was going to also say looks like chrlosis. Looks like they are on the edge of a crop field. Are herbicides of differing sorts used there?
  4. Hi Ben, thanks for that. Yes there were Birch in somewhat close proximatey, but also silver poplar and oak.
  5. Well now that you mention it, yes Mr Humphries, pores was the word I was meaning... of course...
  6. I believe a nice fresh beef steak. On the base of an oak (Fistulina hepatica) I took a small piece from underneath to show the gills a bit.
  7. Looks a bit like shaggy bracket to me. Pholiota squarrosa
  8. Yeah always worth getting a half decent camera if you want to capture good shots. Surprisingly though not too expensive these days for a decent camera. Not the best but good enough to give you some satisfaction in your photos.
  9. Nice. Haven't seen any Goshawks close up. Would love to photograph one though. Birds of prey are really incredily good looking birds I reckon.
  10. been having fun with the camera during lockdown. Kestrel has been nesting high up in one of our old trees.
  11. Does look like a nice walnut. If you have any spare seed, I would like to grow some walnut trees on the site I work at.
  12. Looks great! Definitely an excellent tool for arb. I see a lot of old Beech with Ganoderma. Seems to be part of their lifecycle. I wonder what actually creates that particular fungi to occur on beech specifically. Anyhow the Picus equipment is extremely good to see. I can't wait to get some done or buy the kit and use it. Did you buy your's outright, straight up, all cash on the table at once or another deal? If you don't mind me asking.
  13. Ok tks. Just saw your reply This is also nearby on the wood chip, probably same thing
  14. Interesting. I presume there is an info sheet or white paper on FC website? Haven't seen anything myself of this but can't say I have been looking.
  15. Hi David, Its near a young tree in the grass under mature oaks and otherwise it is a closest to a mulch circle with woodchip. I saw the same on top of a pile of woodchip on the site come to think of it.
  16. to be fair haven't noticed this year yet. Usually have seen it a bit later on in Summer.
  17. Not to be too posh sounding but I use the old Silky long reach. great for sharp and clean cuts on pruning works. Wolf do have many attachments and I use the long reach pole with their hook for removing hang ups.
  18. Haven't seen bracket fungi on Eucalypt. Do you know if the species of Eucalypt matters? There are quite a few that grow here in UK these days. Have you seen G. on other species of Eucalypt?
  19. Lovely looking Laetiporus. Check out the Collins guide to Mushrooms & Toadstools. Will tell you all about it.
