  1. Good deal! Just bought one from Amazon for 48p. Had bought the collins British Insects guide which is pretty useful but wanted a specific butterfly book too. Thanks for the hint.
  2. Cheers Gary. Looks like it. What book do you have?
  3. Ok sounds good. Will spend a bit of time on it and see how it goes. Ta
  4. I see okay. I was reading up on some other stuff and got some fairly differing settings to what you have just explained. There are many variables so I think I will take on board what you have said and try that with a bit of jiggery pokery until I get it right. Generally I can take a decent photo with most cameras but moving birds are a bit of a thing to get the hang of. Thanks for the advice and I will let you know how it goes. Took some shots of the terns today ducking and diving into the pond. None of them were up to snuff so will try again next time they come along.
  5. Bloody good shots there. What shutterspeed are you using and what was the iso? would like to know for myself and taking bird shots better.
  6. Mr Heron came by the pond, saw me and perched in this tree.
  7. Haven't seen any small blues around our way yet. But nice slow worm pic. Swallows and terns been turning up at our pond. Good sign that summer is on its way I reckon.
  8. Good catch there Mick and the wisteria is looking good!
  9. Yep some of the brood frames for a national hive. Got some busy honey bees at the moment.
  10. Sorbus torminalis could well be.
  11. Well excuse me all over the place. Noice tree though.
  12. Nice until they fall off all over the place.
  13. my initial thought was Zelkova. But it is probably a cherry having just flowered.
  14. Fantastic. Must be quite a sight those whoopers flying in.
  15. Very good indeed. Nice camera there. I am about to get a better lens for my LUMIX micro four thirds. Will get me to 300mm which hopefully will work for some good close ups. More localised wildlife here. Beautiful scene.
  16. Yes a very good quick shot. What camera are you using?
  17. Bit of apple blossom out. Catkins on the Birch and Cedrus libani getting going from seed in the greenhouse.
  18. Burn it! I like to go for something a little less harsh on the old environment myself. I usually use a mix of high concentrate vinegar/salt sprayed onto the weeds or I burn them with a weed burner. Obviously the other quick method is just use a strimmer to knock them off. Mares tale will take you years of spraying to properly knock back. Same as JKW. You basically have to dig it out in total to get rid of it. Even if you do spray it year in and year out, it moves location just when you think you have got rid of it.
  19. Great shot. Don't see them where I am.
  20. Not in Sussex mate. But yes up in Liverpool and other places. I hear it didn't go down well with the locals when they turned one of your villages into a reservoir. We had similar down here when the local village was flooded to create our reservoir. Though that was a long time ago.
  21. Whatever makes you happy mate. Pretty sure highland Spring is from the hills of Scotland though.
  22. Where is it growing? What problem is it causing?
