  1. I would suggest getting a mower to mow the grass. Seems very expensive idea to get a loader to mow with. You can get a seriously good ariens or cub cadet, big american mower to mow all the grass you ever need for less than 10k brand new with upto 60" mulching deck and very sturdy. Very quick to get about with either of those. Also built to mow lawns and excellent handling. Big engines and few parts to worry about. Not sure how much a mulch deck is on a loader but I think they aren't cheap for a decent size deck.
  2. Carrying on with the oak [emoji106]
  3. Ah, probably is one I’ve seen then. Just looked interesting where it was. Cheers.
  4. Well I am currently milling some 17ft oak at about 3” which is bloody heavy. I’m wondering if it’s closer to 300kg, but haven’t weighed them yet.
  5. That was a few years ago and before my time. But always good to know a bit about English history.
  6. Climate change I reckon.
  7. Don’t think I’ve seen this before, was under a young cedar tree we planted last year.
  8. Nice colours in that first shot. Great effect.
  9. Bit of Alder thinning near our lake dam. Got some nice long straight sticks.
  10. Crikey. That's a bit of a blow out!
  11. Nice selection and great colours. Thanks for sharing. [emoji106]
  12. Wow! great detail. Love the teeth, they look very real.
  13. Somewhat desiccated. One of the Pholiota fungi potentially?
  14. Monster boards there!!
  15. Very nice when you have all the gear to move the slabs!! Lovely job!!
  16. This oak has been down about 15 years, been wanting to mill it up for some time. Getting some very nice 17’ (5 metre) slabs out of it. [emoji106]
  17. That looks brilliant. Great fun. Is that the Lucas slabbing mill?
  18. Lots of Armillaria honey fungus about at the minute. A few trees were looking unhappy in summer and now have honey fungus showing up around their root zone. Could explain it or the after effect of something else first.
  19. A good friend has lent me his 880 for a few weeks to trial. Managed to rip out six 10 foot boards this afternoon. In pretty hard ash. I like it.
  20. Sounds good for the price. I was looking at the 15hp Crytec towable chipper. Being able to actually move it around will mean I can get it around site easier which works for me. I have looked at other chinese options along with the more expensive ones. Access is not much of an issue for me as I have 59 acres of rolling countryside to look after and obviously getting a much bigger chipper later on will be the best option. However for the time being until the budget improves, I will try for a wee chipper jobby and see how long it lasts.
  21. What is the wee chipper you are using? I have an antique monster greenmech which needs a good bit of engineering work to make it happy, so am looking for a wee chipper for use.
  22. Nice. Carving must be good once you’ve really got your teeth into it! And without giving away all the secrets, do you work out dimensions or sketch it out first, I,e... how do you go from concept to carved product? It must take some doing [emoji106]
  23. Thanks David. I will have a good study of that fungi with those points in mind. A wealth of knowledge! [emoji106]
