  1. Crikey. That's a bit of a blow out!
  2. Nice selection and great colours. Thanks for sharing. [emoji106]
  3. Wow! great detail. Love the teeth, they look very real.
  4. Somewhat desiccated. One of the Pholiota fungi potentially?
  5. Very nice when you have all the gear to move the slabs!! Lovely job!!
  6. This oak has been down about 15 years, been wanting to mill it up for some time. Getting some very nice 17’ (5 metre) slabs out of it. [emoji106]
  7. That looks brilliant. Great fun. Is that the Lucas slabbing mill?
  8. Lots of Armillaria honey fungus about at the minute. A few trees were looking unhappy in summer and now have honey fungus showing up around their root zone. Could explain it or the after effect of something else first.
  9. A good friend has lent me his 880 for a few weeks to trial. Managed to rip out six 10 foot boards this afternoon. In pretty hard ash. I like it.
  10. Sounds good for the price. I was looking at the 15hp Crytec towable chipper. Being able to actually move it around will mean I can get it around site easier which works for me. I have looked at other chinese options along with the more expensive ones. Access is not much of an issue for me as I have 59 acres of rolling countryside to look after and obviously getting a much bigger chipper later on will be the best option. However for the time being until the budget improves, I will try for a wee chipper jobby and see how long it lasts.
  11. What is the wee chipper you are using? I have an antique monster greenmech which needs a good bit of engineering work to make it happy, so am looking for a wee chipper for use.
  12. Nice. Carving must be good once you’ve really got your teeth into it! And without giving away all the secrets, do you work out dimensions or sketch it out first, I,e... how do you go from concept to carved product? It must take some doing [emoji106]
  13. Thanks David. I will have a good study of that fungi with those points in mind. A wealth of knowledge! [emoji106]
  14. Hi Dan, presuming the trees are for fruit and not flowering cherries? It is my understanding that stone fruits have to be pruned in summer months otherwise yes it could be deadly. My tutor on a course I did some years ago for orchard tree pruning was pretty adamant that stone fruits should only be pruned in summer months. When I contacted him this year about pruning a cherry tree (mid june) he was very positive about the pruning being done in June and not over autumn/winter. Besides that I believe silver leaf is more abundant during autumn due to the damp days and the much larger amount of fungal spores that are air borne at this time of year. After all, this is pretty much fungi heaven at the moment so I would say not to prune at this time. But I am sure there are many more views and experience of such on here.
  15. Hi David, what are the reasons you would describe this fruiting body as Gymnopilus? are their specific gills to that or is the stipe specific. The fruiting bodies look quite similar to a number of other mushrooms I am seeing around. Or is this a host specific fungi, i.e, ash? Cheers, Aaron
  16. No idea. I’m just milling it up so I can save the timber and not ring up the decent wood. Might sell it one day. Will see what the future holds.... [emoji106]
  17. Red admirals out in force today in the sunshine.
  18. Fascinating detail. What equipment do you need (along with probably a lot of skill) to create those?
  19. One of the funnels I believe, possibly trooping by the looks of the troop of mushrooms that were there.
