  1. Hi guys, can anyone help please, had a lad drop a 009 off with me that was bogging down under revs. Fit new carb kit and saw now runs sweet. Hes requested i source and fit a new chain, only thing is i cant get any info on what chain it should run? The bar is in very good condition with visible part number stamped 3005 000 6309. Its a 14” bar, from what info i can get from the maintenance manual, and it states its 3/8 pitch, but cant get any more info than that? Can anyone help with a specific part number for the chain please, he wants it to be a genuine stihl chain too. There are no markings on the original chain at all so i cant even decide from that ?!! It has been filed to the max so is desperate to be replaced. I’m thinking it should be part number 3617 000 0050, can anyone concur? Thanks guys.
  2. Vesp..... did you read the thread earlier on where i asked the question on favouring a fibre reinforced shaft or a traditional wood one.......? [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848][emoji848] obviously not[emoji30][emoji30][emoji30][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42][emoji42] i’m beginning to yawn again as earlier, its like dejavu [emoji15] [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849] [emoji30][emoji30][emoji30] Anyone know a good sunday car boot i can go route around just to please someone???!!! ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️
  3. [emoji6][emoji39][emoji51][emoji106]
  4. @rough hewn gota say i think the stihl has the edge
  5. Top bus that! (Pardon the pun) proper insulation job is the key to converting, will do 10 times the mileage it has on it with no bother, regular oil changes [emoji6][emoji108]
  6. Did ponder on some pants with sawn in braces, gets frustrating keep pulling ya pants up and re fettling yaself, and you look odd to passers by [emoji6]? some husky pants on bob richardson tools & fastners website at £65 that looked ok for the money, but then i get baffled with class ‘a’ ‘b’ ‘c’ etc. I just take it that the more expensive ones will be better ??
  7. Hurry up, i wana watch it [emoji12]
  8. Anyone rate the lower priced chainsaw trousers £60 - £100 price range, promised to buy myself some for obvious reasons. You never know what could happen when using your tools, i’m not a pro like most of you guys so dont want to invest hundreds in to clothing but do appreciate the dangers so want to buy something. Any advice is much appreciated [emoji106]
  9. Cheers guys, shall seek and find, taa very much [emoji106]
  10. Well i’m no pro, its all purely for myself what i do, not cos i’m selfish or owt. I’m a hgv mechanic through the day, house bashing and wood cutting on an evening and weekends. Been using my chainsaws to deal with the bulk, a bomb for odd knotty bits with the help of a wedge (rough i know [emoji51]) and electric / hydraulic splitter for some, rest of it with an old rusty axe my dad gave me. Thats hard work tho cos it has a short handle like you say and rattles me a bit every now and then. Be happy spending £40 - £60 on something, possibly a tadge more if ya can recommend owt? I’m 5’10” 12.5 stone quite broad and can, to be honest in my own opinion, swing a sledge / mell fairly well, (was brought up on a farm and made to knock posts in from an early age whilst balancing off old milk crates [emoji15]?) any ideas would be great. Cheers
  11. Talk about leaving us hanging...... coming soon!!! [emoji30][emoji849][emoji35]
  12. @neiln, would you stick with the traditional wood shaft, or do you rate the fibre reinforced shafts? I’m thinking more for vibration / shock reasons, only because i have an odd bad day here and there with my fingers and hands due to 20+ yrs of spannering and working in all environments.
  13. Single glazed on mine. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a double glazed door now you’ve come to mention it [emoji848] will keep my eyes peeled tho for future, not something i’d really take in to consideration either till you’ve said it. Whats the difference without stating the obvious, if there is any? Are they Literally just thicker? Just thinking from an intense heat point of view, surely it couldn’t withstand the heat if it was like a traditional double glazed unit? The inner air/gas of the unit combined with heat would cause it to break surely? [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]
  14. Get calls every now and then off local farmers and friends with a tree down. Just go and muller it, give them what they want (if they want any of it) take the rest for myself and split it / store it at home. Bag all my sawdust and give it back to local farmers as bedding. Enjoy using my stihl toys and axe, keeps me fit (ish) and most importantly...... stops the misses moaning in winter that shes cold! [emoji108]
  15. I’m just a little old fashioned i suppose stubby, i like a bit of curvature here and there [emoji6] not all straight lines and all that. I do prefer a single door too.
  16. Hell fire, thats took a battering!!!
  17. Hey all, machinetec carb arrived last week, looks sweet [emoji108] will hopefully get half hour to myself one day this week so will keep ya posted on the outcome [emoji6]
  18. You dug a hole yet woody paul?
  19. HGV’s now have to have minimum of straps fitted to the load by law, think its 2 minimum [emoji848] front and back, and Scotlands laws are even more stringent than that! We have to strap every pallet at our gaff, so thats 10 straps front to back. Strapping does make a difference but wont stop the inevitable due to “tit head drivers” abusing and exceeding the capabilities of their tools! In this case the tractors and their top heavy loads. Defo should be more involved tests and understanding given to young drivers, especially given the fact they are going to be towing immense weights like they do. Could quite easily have turned that load over including the tractor and landed on top of a motorist or a pedestrian, a member of our family even!!! Throw the chuffing book at em i say!!!!
  20. We only get an official 30min break for dinner on our job, but your allowed to brew on the job when you want. (Within reason) I cant eat breakfast and go to work, never have been able too. Get up at 5am, take dog out, work for 6am, make a brew when i get there, hand over from night shift, try to have a brew again around 8ish but doesnt always happen, brew at 11 regardless, when 2nd shift come in and take my 30 min sit down at 1pm which is when i’ll eat, hand over to back shift and finish at 2pm. Dont smoke or owt, but just find if i’m busy i dont feel the need to eat or sometimes even drink ?‍♂️ everyones different. I dont like workers that take the piss out of the system though, that really gets me annoyed, and mobile phones should be banned till official brew times too. Simple rules apply, honest days work should be rewarded with an honest days pay. Or vice versa [emoji106]
  21. Does it have the oil level cut out circuit/switch? Some times and it only needs to be as much as an egg cup full when the engine gas run and is still warm some of the oil is still clung to the engine internals higher up than sump level and obviously registers as low oil level and hence the no start till its all dribbled back down and topped the sump up. Honda do a similar thing too.
  22. 2nd trailer was riding up on roundabout if you watch it, he’d be concentrating on his front left corner not touching the 1st outfit and not paying any attention to his own o/s rear.... hence the roll over, speed wont of helped but its up on the roundabout momentum thats turned him. Tractor tests are a joke, should have harsher tests and rules to abide to. Same with moped training. Lucky lad like woody paul said, could easily of nipped on hitch and rolled tractor over too.
  23. Sorry pal, that looks bloody awful [emoji37]?? (just my opinion [emoji51]) too modern looking for me. Looks very shallow in its body for breathing and operating if you look at the door line ?‍♂️ but hey, the proof will be in the burning and if people like the look of it then it may well be good for Stovax like you suggest. I’m happy with my stockton [emoji106]
