  1. Hey guys, re-roof on house done now, back on my late shift so have stripped the carb down again.... all looks mint ?‍♂️ what do you call the “accelerator piston o-ring?” ?
  2. Not sure?! Struggling anyhow, got the vid across to my archive but i cant seem to upload it on the forum??! You got whattsapp ?? Could be with you in seconds [emoji51]
  3. I do have a corresponding video to this involving the tidy young lady [emoji6][emoji6][emoji6] just not sure if i’d get away with posting it on here without me getting in trouble???! [emoji15][emoji15]?‍♂️
  4. Easiest way for a check would be with a scanner, water board/gas lads etc use em daily, could be worth an ask ?‍♂️[emoji106]
  5. Hey woody paul, remember as a kid growing up on the farm, my dad had a pressure drop over a period of 12 months to practically nothing, played havoc with the milking / flushing etc at milking times morning and night. Turned out that they had put a new plastic mains pipe in before we bought the farm in 86 and in 92 when we had the issue it was found that where they had coupled the new plastic to existing steel/lead (cant remember what it was) it had all oxidised/corroded at the joint and restricted the passage between the two! Authorities were made to carry out the repair and to also continue the plastic pipe all the way to the main road, something they were already meant to have done when the original job took place in early 80’s [emoji15][emoji849][emoji849]?
  6. I’m only an occasional cutter of the wood, usually because i’ve had a call to come and clear a fallen tree or the similar which becomes my firewood for the following year. I tend to clean up as much of the sawdust as i can to give a good impression tho, so just usually bag it up and give it to local farmers for bedding of horses, cows, sheep etc. I don’t charge for it because it tends to bring me favours in return some times. i.e i’ll get a call to come clear a fallen tree for them [emoji51] so i get a free supply of wood for the year after again, works for me ?‍♂️
  7. Yeah i’ve dropped my gas / electric bills by quite a bit by using the stove yeah. Especially as all my woods been free up to now, (soft wood from work, pallets etc and a large beech tree i mullered with a mate of mine and my latest stihl purchase [emoji51]) got a large Ash to drop in next couple of months too, so my supply will be good for quite a while yet [emoji106] We live by candle light in our house practically anyhow, we’re very antisocial ya know ? I’d say an average gas / electric bill of nearly £1100 a year for us is down to nearer £800 a year now for the two of us. (Guessing at that tho cos her indoors sorts all the monies out, i just work and hand over the readies.... [emoji848][emoji849][emoji30][emoji386][emoji24] wouldnt be without my burner now tho... love it!
  8. Prefer a more traditional looking stove, but i’m not a big fan of cast feet, just think theyre tacky looking and not really a good match on most stoves, but thats just my opinion. That part reason why i went for a stovax stockton midline with full cast bottom. Love it, and suits my fireplace that i built too, its spot on [emoji108]
  9. Same here [emoji106] once a year when the ickle chimney sweep man comes round with his rod [emoji15] get it all checked and signed for building regs / house insurance scenario.
  10. Fire lighters or gel, just depends on whats on offer at the time ?‍♂️ then my unlimited source of pallets knocked down in to kindling [emoji108] my stoves a peach though with a tremendous draw on it so its kinda hard to fail though too ?
  11. May be next week tho guys, cos i’m on my silly shift at work and currently mid way through re-roofing my house [emoji30] [emoji27] not enough time in a day for everything at min. Thanks for the help tho guys [emoji106][emoji108]
  12. Hey spud, 127psi on my stihl compression tester, but there isnt an ounce of marking or blemish on the pistion looking through exhaust side, like i say i’m shocked theres so little carbon build up or anything. Will do the check again tho [emoji106] bmp01 this is the first newer type carb i’ve played with, its usually older type 180 i mess with the 181 is new to me but i suspect the theories are very similar apart from the added on top section / butterfly which will be for emissions etc. Will go through it all again tho for sure, my gut feeling is fuel related (carb) cos like i say its had new fuel line & filter (all genuine stihl too) Cheers guys, will come back to you on further findings and developments [emoji106]
  13. Hey guys, anyone ever had a baby MS181 that starts and idles perfect yet when you go to rev and cut the saw bogs down? The saw doesnt have to be in the cut either for it to bog down. Can press trigger and she’ll rev out fine, no messing at all, then all of a sudden it’ll miss and start to bog?! Other times if wont rev out clean at all?! Really weird and really random [emoji35] Up to now i have had exhaust off to check everything, all looks good on piston side, compression is 125psi, no spark arrestor fitted to exhaust and carbon build up is minimal if i’m honest. I’ve fitted new diaphragm kit to carb, new fuel line, air filter, plug etc and cleaned around the drum and chain brake as this was rank and proper made up!!! (Idle farmer) its a 2007 model, so reluctant to throw big money at it. Anyone else had any similar issues? Cheers Andy
  14. Yeah as above, sounds more like sticky parts of your drive, clutch / drum etc strip it down, clean up with some emery cloth and the usual lube here and there [emoji106]
  15. How olds the machine? Standing them doesnt always do them good, seals, lines and diaphragms etc can suffer, may be drawing air in somewhere as a result, can sometimes cause an increased idle speed
  16. Have a stovax stockton 5 midline fitted with smoke control kit, plenty of heat, no problems lighting it what so ever! Burns mega clean to the point it leaves practically no ash, takes ages for me to get a bed of ash built up at start of cold season. My only criticism on the stove is that when you fully shut it down (close all vents) the stove still draws that little bit too much air (in my opinion) thats the smoke control kit not allowing you to shut it fully down tho, not a fault of stovax’s original stove design. If you could just get the air intake down slightly then you would get more burn time from your logs, which would make YOUR (the human) efficiency better, in the fact that you would use less wood. But for the STOVE to be at its peak efficiency for emissions then it requires that bit extra air intake, otherwise it would produce more smoke. Same principals of an engine, not enough air and too much fuel = plenty of smoke out your pipe. Good amount of air plus good amount of fuel = nice clean pipe with no smoke [emoji108] I find that people not understanding this concept and how the control of emissions through the stove works often ends up with them blaming the brand, in this case Stovax. In short tho, i rate stovax and are a well known long established brand! [emoji106]
  17. Friend of mine been to look at a few, obvious places you can see through wheel arches etc on chassis, look under front bumper upwards towards front member they’re prone for rotting there, inner wings / and front leg attachment areas, under rear bumper upwards towards rear body and rear member, and any fixed areas of body to chassis. Check under back sides of sills too along the whole length, some suffer and some don’t. Shame really that more care isn’t taken at build / factory when knocking them out, a good waxoyle would av prevented a lot of them becoming extinct so early cos engines arent really that bad. You tried the Mazda BT variant? Virtually the same motor but Mazdas dont seem to suffer the rot just as much ?‍♂️
  18. Nice write up Steve [emoji106] spent a lot of time designing and building my fireplace, plus laying out money to have my burner professionally installed to comply with regs etc!!! I have the DEFRA approved smoke control kit fitted to my stove and it is very efficient with its burn, in the fact that it leaves practically no ash behind at all even if you fully shut the stove down. That said it means i use slightly more wood than what i would like. I feel it draws just that little bit too much air and would benefit from being able to be choked down a little further, but then the emissions would come back up, Its a fine balance i suppose. Bowland stoves are only down the road from us here, good company to deal with [emoji106] Its getting a lot like the “diesel scandal” they”ll blame batteries and stored energies next and in the end [emoji30]?
  19. Run down and run up times are to also allow temperatures to come up / come down too. A lot of people assume that it is the water / coolant that does the cooling of an engine..... well it helps yeah and is designed to flow through your engine and cooling system and pipes and radiator etc..... blah blah blah, but one of the major factors / players of engine cooling is also the engines oil believe it or not. Without good quality and clean engine oil the risk of damage to the engine and its components are at a higher risk of failure. Oil that is left longer than its subscribed service life will get a bigger build up of carbon and contaminates as another use of oil is to also clean an engines internals. The dirtier the oil the harder it is to perform and disperse heat etc, so allowing the engine to idle after use for a minute or so (on a turbo’d engine) is to allow for rpm’s / temperatures to come down and as described above by josharb87 will also prevent oil starvation to parts too yes. Even with modern oils there is still a risk, esoecially if they are not changed on a regular basis [emoji106]
  20. Hey Eggs, Look at 814D, lots of variations from mini buses to recovery trucks depends what you want, just as reliable in every way, few more about than 811D so makes them slightly cheaper too, just avoid any that have been used as horse transporters! They carry the usual wee wee corrosion and general neglect that horse owners give ( the major lack of spending on maintenance / upkeep ) worked on a lot of horseboxes and can honestly say i wouldnt want to recommend any for resale, even the ones at 5 or so years old. Good luck tho [emoji106]
  21. So defo a realistic option to look at if considering a long term investment / retirement plan. (Not that i’m anywhere near retiring, but will stay in my current home till the end of my days) [emoji106] thanks for the added and awaited info donnk ?[emoji108]
  22. I’d look at the 026 if you were pushing him towards a stihl, or for a slight weight saving the 024, you’ll comfortably pick up a mint one for £200, if your looking at any other specific brands then others on here will give better advice than i can, i’m a stihl only man.
  23. Nice one JAG63, thats right on my doorstep and i’ve been mulling over doing the basics first before diving in to doing the big certs etc, will have a ride across to discuss whats on offer [emoji106]
  24. £200 would buy you alot of saw if you found a good 2nd hand one [emoji106]
