  1. I was looking earlier and turns out a Husqvarna 120 is only £160 so I guess they wanted something to compete on price with that. The 120 is 38cc and 1.4kW though so chunk more power and roller tip bar. I'm tempted to get one just for fun, so cheap.
  2. I'm really amazed at that, can't think of another solid nose on a small saw? Not even in Aldi. Maybe they reckon no nose roller is better than a bad one.
  3. Wow that is cheap as chips.
  4. It's just a big M20 but isn't it? If you bought a few washers and nut from Spalding fasteners would work and be cheap but less convenient.
  5. Ok, for me Aviva renewal 440 up from 390. Direct Line want 620. I'm going to get Aviva renewed before they put the price up. I think this just proves it's a total lottery doesn't it.
  6. Blimey I'd better check Direct Line too then
  7. Yes, with a petrol engine. Maybe a thousand times better but sadly thick end of 10 times more expensive.
  8. I was recommended these people although not had a job come up. Thought it would be too far but if it could go to Northants then would be going past. Noted that although they say British hardwoods they sell cedar. Products | mactimbers.com MACTIMBERS.COM
  9. Aviva's been ok for me on the Defender, they even include breakdown cover for a reasonable fee which is a good deal on an 18 year old Landrover. Renewal has gone up to be fair but not as much as yours.
  10. Upgrade for the M500... https://www.instagram.com/reel/C12CZUeoZ32/?igsh=OGN3dzdiNm1lc3dt&fbclid=IwAR2BnRf1hg7oAKsFABjr_CkmI4c25QsbHYgXr50OPLaYt0-WblJzfxiyIAw
  11. Nope, climbed in one of those although just a trial. Treehog still the worst, instantly you wonder how they managed to make something so uncomfortable.
  12. No, they work by clamping down on the cable, so it has to be the right size and type of cable for the one you have. I've got 20m and then if I need longer for a fell or something I put a doubled 14mm rigging line which is way above the 1.6t capacity of the winch. Also you have to thread the cable through the machine so each time the whole thing needs laying out, more than 20m as well as being heavy would make this more of a pain.
  13. Treehog harness was the most uncomfortable thing I ever put on.
  14. This is the one I bought JET Wire Rope Hoist/Puller - 1600kg | L&S Engineers WWW.LSENGINEERS.CO.UK JET Rope Hoist - 1600kg capacity Safe, reliable and efficient range of lifting and pulling...
  15. That's real parts bingo when you start bringing in bits from other saws!
  16. ... and don't forget to put the handle in the van too, else it's really annoying having to go back home and get it. Only done it once. So far. I'd agree 1.6t is plenty big enough and dont go for more than 20m cable as it weighs a ton. There's a whole load of the Chinese ones which are essentially the same, Jet was available from L&S at the time so I thought would be good to use a reputable supplier in case of issues but its been faultless. I've also upgraded to the petrol power, lot of money but brilliant. I went for PCW4000 as it was in stock, has holding cleat, and throttle control by rope tension bit like the Eder, and works with wider range of rope.
  17. I think the trees were pretty big when transplanted, and coming all the way from Italy you wouldn't really expect them to grow much for a good few years after that shock . A low growth rate is generally desirable in this type of tree, otherwise you'd be fighting to keep them in shape the whole time.
  18. I've read somewhere that decomp shouldn't be used when a saw is very new, the rings haven't bedded in yet and compression is less than normal. 15 hours might be beyond this, not sure. Personally I wouldn't be using the decomp on a 261 anyway.
  19. How much more is an MS400? That's what I'd buy. You might save the 362 with just a piston, then it becomes more viable but like Mick says your risk is whatever caused the piston to score in the first place.
  20. I've got a Posch vertical splitter, which has a plug-in table each side you can pop pieces on when splitting down a ring. This means you essentially never need to bend down once you've got a ring on the table, which I really like. The other thing is there's no trap when it goes up, so return stroke can safely happen while you let go of the handles to move logs.
  21. Fair enough although 2001 does seem like recent years. Get 'em a Nissan cabstar. Too narrow to straddle and the wheelbase is short so if you hit a speedbump fast everything in the cab including occupants travels up to the roof and back down.
  22. I've got a Rescuedfromlandfill bag for rope too, it's well made but probably not a great kit bag as you can't zip it up to keep closed and keep the rain out. I also have been using one of those OEX bags for climbing kit for a few years, mine was GoOutdoors. I think if you're going cheap then it's a much better deal than cheap arb which would probably mean Stein , they don't seem to last 5 minutes.
  23. They probably won't like it now the log is split, it'll get too dry. In any case the larvae won't magically multiply, I wouldn't worry about it myself.
  24. Loads more kindling now! Just need to go and find where it landed.
