  1. Mine are a bit longer but gradually working down in length as I nick or spike them.... Definitely see the advantages of a shorter line for moving around, if I'm anchoring srt I generally pull spare up around and through a ring then lock off with alpine, so the tail is only what I need.
  2. Its 3 month blocks Jan-Mar etc. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/64b54e2d0ea2cb000d15e3e5/FC_Tree_Felling_4_July_23_WEB.pdf
  3. Hmm . Did buy a tipper trailer 3 years ago though, that would count.
  4. That'll be SAGA , they'll be coming for you too eventually....
  5. Seems like I'd be able to reclaim all the VAT I've spent on Landrover repairs over the last 4 years - definitely tempting to register.
  6. Got a drop of exhaust paste in my eye once, turns out it's quite like bleach so really really hurts and you have to sit in A&E for ages with one eye shut.
  7. Likely to sprout from the tops where you've cut, I would coppice them back to stumps and infill with some native hedging mix as long as you can stand it being open for a while.
  8. I thought about this, harness prices have gone ballistic over the last 5-10 years if you compare to what you used to pay for a Butterfly, I seem to remember about 180 when a saw was 500. Then again if you haven't got a comfortable harness nothing else matters so you pay it. Think the marketers have cottoned on to this.
  9. The tree doesn't mind at all whether you cut the dead part off or not, it's stopped interacting with it. I'd probably cut it off so you can see new growth more easily.
  10. I wonder if you could coppice it, effectively plant the root and have it sprout? Trouble is that's probably not the bit you want to sprout if it's grafted.
  11. Seems like they still make them https://rothenbuhlereng.com/industries/forestry/
  12. I've got the book but can't remember this bit, have to go and read it again.
  13. If you go commercial then check the speed limits as the grenadier is over 2040kg so not a dual purpose vehicle. Think you'll be at 60 on dual carriageway.
  14. I've seen that black smouldery burn when using it on scout campfires. On our burner at home I've always burned it mixed and never had a problem.
  15. Cheap as chips too - really tempting. The 540 is as much money as a 50cc saw.
  16. Disappointed because it failed, or disappointed with how it worked? Just curious, most people seem to rave about them but I've not used one. Maybe you need a 462? Or if you're going Husqvarna instead get a 592 or maybe 585, quite a bit cheaper.
  17. Do you leave that where it is and hook it up to an ascender then?
  18. ... or just use the back end of your climbing rope, that's been LOLER'd! To be fair I don't do a lot of natural crotch as it's so hard on my nice ropes, I carry a spider sling in my climbing bag so I do like the advantages of friction up high and not needing to set up a bollard for a few small pieces.
  19. Good enough for Graeme....
  20. Er, the original question was from 14 years ago... Rates about the same?
  21. Ring up and ask them
  22. I might have the wrong end of the stick here, but are we saying Nigella is on onlyfans ? (asking for a friend, obviously)
  23. So neither your rubble layer nor topsoil are shrinkable clay? Can't see an issue then, take it out - not that big anyway.
  24. Don't make a lot of difference, it's dead.
  25. Maybe put the 181 on eBay, shows willing you aren't just buying an ever increasing number of saws. Your other strategy is the one I follow, buy so many they lose count and don't really worry if one more turns up.
