Funny thread. I've found myself agreeing with everyone, despite the very different points of view. To address the question, madstock, I suppose you have to ask yourself, are you happy with your costing. And I often reflect, and ask myself, would I do the same job again for that price. Maybe put a bit aside for some ppe., though. I don't like telling other people what they should be doing, but, if you are doing similar work regularly, it would be to your benefit 👍

I was about 26 yrs old before I realised you got mots in a garage. I used to go to the old fella in the corner of the pub, give him a tenner, mileage and vehicle reg, and he wrote it out infront of you!

You're probably right eggs. I don't seem to be able to do the bartering thing. I'm the same when pricing jobs. I give my price, and when I get the slightest whiff of them trying to haggle, I'm in the truck and away

Same. Hate buying and selling anything. Had to sell my caravan recently. Advertised at 6000. Got an offer of 5500. I think I was supposed to say 5750, but I just said 'OK, thanks'

It seems, what is already ' not a great relationship with the neighbour ' could turn into a nightmare, very easily. leylandii must be in the 'top 3' for neighbour disputes. Whatever you decide, I'd inform your neighbour of your intentions. One thing that would get his back up, is seeing someone in his tree. Even if you stick to your side

Get a few more quotes. If they are all coming in around £1300, that's telling you something. (It's not a quick and easy job) Can you post some pics? Then people on here may be able to confirm this

I'd suggest you could offer to help a professional from the ground, but I know most probably won't take the offer. It sounds like the type of job, most of us try to avoid. It really isn't to be taken lightly. You will be astounded by how much comes off them. We would have 3 possibly 4 men on that, by the sound of it

My 2511 didn't run very well, new out of the box. I had a little fettle with it, and probably just got lucky. Good saws, when running well.

Don't think your neighbour is as delighted as you. That might change though, after a few quotes have come in
