  3. Same reason no one makes 500cc two man chainsaws anymore. Don’t need it. The 090 was a great saw 40 years ago. But its very heavy, inefficient with fuel, very slow chain speed in the wood 6-8krpm, compared with an 881... It’s like your 3.5 litre rover vs a 3 litre golf turbo. One might have a bigger displacement but modern tech will win everytime. Have you ever used an 070/090? It’s literally an engine with a couple of steel tubes welded on for handles. Stihl asked me what I would like for a big milling saw. 250cc was my first answer??? But after using the 881 for nearly 6 months, to my surprise I discovered I’d been wrong. You don’t need massive displacement. It’s all about the resistance/drag from the teeth in the wood vs power vs functionality. This is why I use different chain set ups for different length bars with the 880/881. 30” bar cross cut stihl full comp full chisel. 54” bar milling stihl full comp full chisel or granberg ripping chain. 84” bar milling Oregon hyperskip. The hyperskip chain allows you to use ridiculous bars on single power heads without excessive strain on the engine. I’ll be doing some comparison videos of the different chain setups shortly.   6. Ok I see a misunderstanding here. I’m not talking linear, it’s fibre cohesion. Lift a 3m x 2m x 50mm board up from the sides it will probably split down the middle. That bog oak was under 2’ wide. [emoji106]

  8. Let me get this straight. You cut a slab 6.8m x .85-1.6m x 3”? Then got two guys to lift and move it?
  9. Depends on species and how you move/lift it, Pith quality etc. Personally I’d go 4”-8”. [emoji106]
  10. It’s a common sense vs law mate. Single axle, less weight more payload, but less traction and stability. Double axle,more weight less payload, but more traction and stability. Also “IF” you were to overload a double axle I presume it would be safer. [emoji106]

  13. As an employer, anyone who paid for their own tickets is worth a try out. It shows initiative and positive attitude. You can’t learn those on a course. Not everything in arb is about climbing, (whatever the climber says). These days it’s machinery, big stuff. Driving plant and a hgv is a very desirable trait in arb. Have you though about travelling as a sub contractor? There’s a few of us on here who don’t have the luxury of local regular work. Working for a different firm every week really is an eye opener to how it can be done..... Get your tickets and kit, and a vehicle you can sleep in. [emoji106]
