  1. I've been lucky, haven't seen rain yet. [emoji3][emoji106]
  2. That piece was nice, but there are some real beauties in the stack. I'll post some pics as I'm milling the best first over the next 3 days. [emoji106]
  3. Paid off bills, rent sorted. Last 2 weeks has been 6day weeks, so stayed down south. I think the layer of sawdust up my nose is helping, can't smell anything. [emoji57] Well I'd certainly recommend a larger van. But it's great experience working with different people and kit, learn something new everyday. Going to miss waking up in the woods though[emoji3]
  4. Often as soon as the boss leaves, the client will appear and say "Now you're here, you are going to do the other 3 hedges and other trees aren't you?"...My reply is " I'm just the guy with the saw, I don't make the decisions. I'll get the boss to call you". Their reply is "oh..." [emoji51][emoji57][emoji23][emoji12]
  5. So for the last 6 weeks been living in the van whilst yoyoing from home in Huddersfield to London and Canterbury. Got 3 more days of milling in Kent then home for good! Starting full time with the local council tree types on Monday [emoji3]. Get to see my family everyday[emoji4] Will be nice to sleep in my own bed every night. This is my first attempt at aerial pruning/pollarding, No need for a harness as I was only 4feet off the ground. [emoji3] Fun times in Margate[emoji106] Got a few logs to mill [emoji3] Have fun, stay safe. Saul
  6. Parked up in the woods[emoji3]
  7. Long day milling with John from Carefell tree surgery in Canterbury. Great oak, 3' wide 8' long and he wants 3" and 4" slabs. Heavy. [emoji15] Love my job! [emoji3][emoji3][emoji3][emoji12][emoji106]
  8. Wish I was running out of oak. [emoji12]
  9. Poplar is great for outdoor fires, big bright flames and you can chuck big lumps on.[emoji106]
  10. Free camping on Dartmoor all year round. I'd recommend skaigh woods near sticklepath On the old a30 by okehampton. Camp, swim, have fires all good. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  11. Yeah, I'll have the one on the left please. Bit hot for glitter bum this week. [emoji12][emoji106]
  12. Had mine 18 months. Use it daily. No problems. Greased the needle bearing once. [emoji3]
  13. Light looking heartwood, but really nice grain. [emoji106]
  14. 2017 model, no problems yet. Cracking small saw, 18" bar .325 chain. Eats trees!!! [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  15. 6 days a week solid now, but early this year was dead. I need a day off now. [emoji3]
  16. In theory IF you had a 3/8 nose sprocket on a 3003 (880) mount with an adapter for mounting on a 660, you could run it. However you probably wouldn't want to use 3/8 chain on an 880 as the torque is more likely to stretch or snap the chain. You could get a duromatic bar for the 880, that you could use on the 660 as there is no nose sprocket. Can run both 3/8 and 404 as long as you use correct clutch sprocket. [emoji106]
  17. For solid get a stihl 051. 90cc torque monster. Can be upgraded to 111cc quite easily. All magnesium body etc. I had one from the early 80's. Bit of tinkering and brrrrm. It will be around for a long time to come. The only reason I sold it is, It weighs about 10+kg and it pulls 6-7k tom in the wood. My 661 will do about 10k rpm in the wood and weighs about 7kg. It may be dead in 5-10 years time, but it will have earned me a lot. [emoji106]
  18. Ten days ago I got asked for a second interview for the council. I don't climb, they wanted to know if I could. So... 8.30 am and I have to climb 30 feet up an oak then move about the branches. Honestly for the first few minutes I was sh**ing myself nearly. Then we spent half an hour chatting and moving around the tree, before being offered the job [emoji106][emoji3] Best interview ever! Spent the last week staring at trees looking for anchor points, and bothering the climber, (what's that for?...) Trusting your harness does take a bit of getting used to. 20. If you look after your saws barring accidents, you won't need to have them looked at for years. Regular maintenance. 661 for me, good solid workhorse for big wood. Videos of the 395 look good too. [emoji106]
  21. Anyone got a copy of VIZ? [emoji12]
  22. Ha! Spot on Jose. [emoji3] All the above. My point is: Not everyone who lives on a site,in a caravan/van etc is a thieving ****. I've known loads of tinks, dids, Romani and New Age travellers good and bad. Could say the same about Arborists, met loads of goodens and quite a few ****s as well. I'm in central London this week, the local thieves here are drug addicts from everywhere. [emoji51]
  23. Silky the main stalks, wait til it turns brown. Box of matches, job done. [emoji106]
  24. That was Lewes in Sussex that burnt a caravan with a cardboard family inside. I sleep in a van 5 nights a week. I travel all over the country. I've got receipts for all my tools. [emoji848][emoji12]
  25. Have a chat with rob. Probably need a lo pro bar and chain. [emoji106]
